This past Sunday I toured the C.DOT Rail Facility with the Electric Railroaders Association. Some of the highlights were seeing the last remaining six New Haven painted FL9s, eight of the SPVs which were suppose to replace the RDC Cars in the early 1980s also several train sets of M8s without 3rd rail shoes that will be for The Shoreline East service once the diesel push pull trains are transferred to the line to Hartford, CT. and Springfield, MA. when the second track is in place on that line, also eight Amtrak Genesis Locomotives on lease to C.DOT. The only reason the FL9s and the SPV are still there is because they were rebuilt with FRA funds. If a buyer is not found by next year then they all can be scraped. In the meantime the FL9s are for sale at one million each, any takers? In the Amtrak yard were AEM7s, Genesis Locomotives, and several non revenue locomotives. Of interest there was a new Viewliner Baggage car. In the station recently installed was the new electronic arrival and departure board and several new monitors displaying both arrivals and departures as well. We then were taken into three of the buildings where both C.DOT locomotives and coaches are serviced. The new forth building is where the M8s are being tested and made ready for service. The management personal who took us though the buildings seamed please to show us around and at the end of the tour we all received Metro-North cooler carry bags. Hope we can have another tour some day.
