Train Store near Harrisburg/Hershey, PA?

Oh boy.  What was once the land of plenty is now a virtual desert.  All I can tell you is to call a few to see their hours:

• The Station in New Cumberland, PA
• Cool Trains in Salunga, PA
• Draud's Derailment in Lebanon, PA

I think the others are pretty much gone.  Am I forgetting a store?

If you go just east of Lebanon PA on 422, Brian's Model Trains is in Myerstown.

I second Cool Trains. Ted, the owner, is a great guy.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Is one better than the other? I have no experience with any of them and website pictures don't always reflect what the size/scope of the store.

White Rose Hobbies in York is pretty good too.

Draud’s in Lebanon has a lot of really cool stuff. The owner, John, is very knowledgeable. Plus, the store has that classic train store scent. It’s about 20 minutes away from Hershey.

Of all mentioned, I have only been to The Station. The shop occupies an old Reading Co. station that was relocated to its present location. The place is fully stocked from postwar to modern and the staff are super friendly.

Ben:  Cooltrains is a great place to visit.   This July, they are open Wed.-Thur.-Fri. & Sat. from July 7 - July 24.  They are closed the week of July 26.    Open 10a-5p W-T-F, 10a-1p on Saturdays.  Cooltrains LINK

The Station has been around a long time.

Back in the early 60's I ordered some 027 wooden ties for my layout (I was 11 at the time and in Jacksonville FL) from The Station, through an ad in Model Railroader.

When the Air Force moved me to Ft Detrick, we bought a home in Gettysburg and I looked for near-by hobby shops.

When I saw The Station in the phone book, it rang as bell.

I took the partially used box of ties to the shop and the owner (the son of the founder) was there and described how he and his Dad used to cut and stain all the ties.

I have been back many times.

  You're not going to find a lot of businesses opened on Sundays in South Central PA, including any of the shops listed in this thread. Looking at the hours, all the shops are closed by 5 on Fridays. It's amazing how many train shops were once in this area even five years ago and now its down to a small handful.

   Mainline Hobby in Blue Ridge Summit is open on Sunday afternoons. That's a little over an hour south off US 15 southwest of Gettysburg.

I'll also bring your attention to Strasburg, PA which is a bit further from Hershey but is a mecca for model railroaders from the Choo-Choo barn The Choo Choo Barn – Strasburg, PA | Gigantic Model Train Layout to the Strasburg railroad Strasburg Rail Road - A Full Steam Adventure - Strasburg Rail Road where you can see and ride a steam passenger train.

The Station is pretty close to Hershey, and still has the old school model train store feeling.
