The engine is only recognizing commands from the CAB1 when the shell is off. How shall I improve reception LS

There is a wire attached to the metal plate antenna. (1.)The rivet attachment can be loose. (2.)Most antenna work well, plastic shell locomotives/engines. Those antennas in a metal tender, require shell isolation from the grounded frame. There was a difference, early TMCC and later, related to the antenna systems ability to pick signal.

The antenna wire appears to be soldered solidly to the plate.

Sounds like the antenna wire is touching ground when the shell is on.
