truck removal on dash 8-40B

Have an atlas O dash 8-40B with trainmaster number 6837-2. One of the brake shoes appears to rub on the traction tire. How do I remove the truck? Take off the shell? Thanks Bert

Basically yes, but you shouldn’t need to do that for the kind of problem you seem to describe. The truck side frames mount with screws underneath where you can easily get to them. The wheelset can also be easily removed by removing the axle cover plate which mounts with four small screws at the corners.
