I have been trying to run my 44 Tonners in a lash-up with spotty success.

So I did a Track Signal test on each of the 44 Tonners individually and a PS3 S-2.

The S-2 test yielded mostly 10's with some 9's at various speeds.

The 44 Tonners test yield similar results a very low speed. At moderate speed, the readings varied from 2-6.

I cleaned my dirty Atlas track. There was no improvement. I also cleaned the pickup rollers on the 44 Tonners. No improvement.

This low signal at moderate speeds is probably why they fight each other at times in a lashup.

Any thoughts on how to improve the track signal reading for the 44 tonners.

If your TIU is older than REV L are you using a "magic light bulb".   This is nothing more than an 18 volt light wired in parallel with the power going into the TIU channels (so you can see at a glance which TIU channels have power).

If you have a REV L TIU, I'm at a loss for suggestions but I am by no means an electrical expert.

Seems like the one with low signal might have an internal problem. I just clean my wheels with Q tips and alcohol. This past weekend I had one of my premier FP-40's keep stalling on a switch,  Could't get it to run upside down for cleaning, so I put some masking tape on the rail sticky side up. Drove the engine over it couple of times to each side of the engine and that solved my stalling problem. (I had cleaned my switch points first). these engines always run together so why one and not the other ?  I don't know.
