Saturday we drove into PA to meet Alan Graziano and pick up our new Oil Refinery. It was 800+ miles and 14 hours roundtrip for us.

Today my son in law finished adding to the end section of Table 1 in the front of the Train Room. The new end section is the location for our Shell Oil Refinery.

Today we just placed the Modules in the approximate locations. We did not do anything with the wiring for the modules yet so the pictures still have wires showing but today confirmed that our modules will fit the layout. We still need to place the correct track into the modules and around the perimeter to confirm all the clearances.

Please remember these are rough pictures but will give you some feel for our Refinery.

Ceaser Thanks!! We are excited also to make more progress around the refinery.

Holy Roly Yes most of it is custome made. a few items were on our old layout and we worked them into the new layout along with the custom made modules.

PTC Brian Thank you!! We were very happy to get it all home and start placing on the layout. There are still 2 more of the MTH oil storage tanks that fit between the water tower and the 3 oil storage tanks that are in a straight line. That will fill in the gap behind the water tower. Also have to install a couple more of the MTH loading/unloading stations in front of these 2 storage tanks.
Brian the Train Barn in the Snow was sooo pretty, it could have been a post card. Hope you are getting settled in. Looks like you have been getting some quality time with your empire.
I thought about all your driving back to Maine after we got back saturday. I was tired but we did not drive nearly as far as you did. Good to hear from you. Smile
Gary thank you. That must have been fun working on the 1/4 " scale models. I think I would try tracking some of them down to see if they were avaiable today Smile

NJCJOE Thank you, we were READY TO GET IT ON THE LAYOUT FOR SURE!!! My son in law and his son got busy Sunday and made a trip to LOWES and got their materials and went at it. When I got out of Mass my cell phone went off and was told that my daughter was fixing a SUNDAY CELEBRATION DINNER for anyone who was working on the layout lol lol. My wife and I got a few things done at home and beat it over to my daughters about 45 minutes away. Man I was blown away with the work that "CHAD" (son in law) and Alex (grandson) had done. We got busy with our layout drawing amd measured up some benchmarks and started placing the modules. It was GREAT TO SEE ALL THE MODULES GO IN PLACE AS PLANNED. After all the excitment on the layout my daughter had a GREAT dinner for us all Smile

It was a WONDERFUL SUNDAY even if it was raining and snowing lol lol.
Santa Fe Jim, I hear ya!!! I was kidding about that yesterday after I paid $78 to fill up my Jeep. Eek

Jeff Thank you very much. As you know Alan Graziano did all the GREAT CREATIVE WORK to build this Refinery. When I walked around it last night I was ALSO VERY IMPRESSED WITH ALL THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL THAT ALAN HAD DONE, JUST LIKE YOU DO ON OUR CUSTOM PAINT JOBS.Last night was a kick the tires night at the ABC RR Big Grin
Johnboy Thank you!!! The 3 tanktrucks are loading up. I liked that view last night when I saw it.

GG1 Thank you we are happy to have it on the layout.

Allen I bought the trucks several years ago on line and don't remember who had them. I had looked quite awhile before I found the ones I have now. If I can think of it I will post it later. Smile
Keith Thank you!!! Alan not only did a great job in building the refinery he kept us up to date so well with the progress photo's. Yes terday when we placed it on the layout aqnd had some track and the CN Diesel up near it I got the REAL FEEL OF HOW MASSIVE the Refinery really is. Thanks again. Smile

ALAN Hey hope you are enjoying the pictures now that I get the pleasure of taking them and sending.posting them Smile
Yes I liked the ABC (Alex, Bill, Chad) tag line you gave us. I think it's a good name to use as the "ABC Layout" Smile

We have to get all the wires run under the table and get some track layed inorder to start to do justice to your HARD WORK. We had a GREAT TIME with it yesterday. We even had a celebration meal last night at the ABC LOL Big Grin
Bill,

Picture all that coming with a starter set?

I'm curious about the irregular, sharp angled, bases seen in some of your photo's... does everything fit together like a puzzle?

I guess your insurance premiums are going up... now that these fine pieces are moving in. You've got a lot of Alan's talent, time and energy represented, there... that is modeling at it's best. The word "unbelievable" keeps coming to mind.

Have fun,

Rick
Rick the starter set would be a real WOW...ERR YOW NOW WHAT LOL Big Grin

Rick I am posting a copy of the oil refinery layout to help to understand the angles.
As you can see I have 3 loops running around the refinery and I was trying to use the space but keep some clearence for my 21" K-Line passenger cars as they coming around these curves. Also if you notice the bottom of the MTH Oil Storage Tanks have a rectangular base and the 2 tanks closest to the water tower are running on an angle trying to keep clearence along the tracks. The Pumping complex used an empty piece of space at the end of the 2nd oil storage tank and was locked in between the row of 3 oil storage tanks.
Rick also as you can see in the pictures and on the drawing we have a large support pole in the middle of the refinery and I want to have sone clearence around it.

Hope that helps. Smile

One thing though, I would get rid of that "foreign diesel" and replace it with a gorgeous Union Pacific. Big Grin

Art

Art LOL LOL LOL....You know that guy named Jeff something that lives south of you an hour or so and paints trains...well I always worried about him slipping one of those Pumpkin colored covered wagons in the box rather than the NOODLE UNIT Big Grin

As many times as I drove by the UP their in Omaha you would think I would have some UP Power but I D O N T HAVE ANY. I will have to rely on you Jeff and that Alan Guy down their in the Hills to help show me the way Big Grin

ART THANKS FOR YOUR KIND WORDS!!! We are just trying to get things up on the layout to make sure we can get it on their. The track will be a real challange but we want to try and tell that the buildings will fit and then we can work with the track.

I am hoping for a very HOT SUMMER so that my son in law will want to work in the basement rather than the yard Smile
Claus, Since I am only slightly biased toward the CN I do have a few of the White Lionel Tank Train cars to run up to the refinery Big Grin

However I must be honest and say that I also have 3 other Lionel Tank Train types. The Black GATX NS with white lettering, the Black GATX Tank Train with orange lettering and the Black GATX CIBRO TANK TRAIN CARS. So our refinery and its yard will be full of lionel TT CARS. Thanks for your suggestion.
VOX you are welcome. My empire is full on CN lol lol.
Rick looks like you are close to your OGR ANNIV DATE congrats!!!!

Engineer Joe Thanks....

gregj410 Thank you very much. Yes I wish we had a lot more and the wells here to keep them busy. Yes I am VERY HAPPY WITH THE AWESOME WORK THAT ALAN GRAZIANO did on this project. Smile
Bill,

If you added a couple of fake fittings to the support pole, and painted it, you could put a label at the top with an arrow pointing up, labelled "to the Alaska Oil Fields" and near the bottom, an arrow pointing down labelled "To the Elliotte City Refinery"

Looking great!...wish I had the space!

Ed
Ed that sounds like a good idea. I was thinking along the lines of the sign saying to the Bud brewery and at the bottom saying on TAP DRAFT Big Grin

We are thinking of possible things for that pole. Maybe a Pole idea contest. I looked for Dale Jr's car to be sitting there but guess he has not run his quals yet Big Grin
Bill...just got home and saw your post. ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING!!!! You are a lucky man to have the means to enjoy Alan's work and to have the vision to make it happen!! I am still working on my refinery...as a matter of fact did some work on it last night. Three more cans of white spray paint just purchased for the next painting session! Mine is similar to yours in placement...first thing you see. So....I have 9 feet of frontal view but it pales in comparison to yours. I am looking forward to seeing your installation progress....GREAT JOB!!

Alan
Alan thank you for your nice comments. Alan G has used hid wonderful skills to create an extremely realistic industrial complex.

Yours is a VERY GOOD unit that with all your GREAT SKILLS will be enhanced by your extra efforts I am sure. I have always LOVED YOUR GREAT WORK on the CITY WOW. No one has a city as beautiful as YOURS ALAN.
I am only going for a little village since our layout is more of an industrial and rail repair facility.

Alan I really do appreicate your comments, thank you.
