Could it be the next big thing as we endeavor to bring our model railroads to life? With Samsung now offering a foldable smart phone with an OLED screen and OLED being flexible I am wondering about the future of this material in model railroad, especially as window material in locomotive cabs, passenger cars, cabooses and structures. Think of miniature LED screens linked to processors in trains. The screens would be transparent for just displaying interiors but could be turned on to present interior displays occupied by camera footage of real people engaged in various activities. Think also of backdrops made of OLED where the trees would blow in the wind and animals and vehicles would move about. As the cost of OLED drops, when will begin to see its integration in model railroading as opening another dimension into electric trains?

I have recently thought that technology is almost there, that some type of cheap color screen could be put into all those aquarium car variants, that would make for more realistic looking critters moving about, rather than a painted celluloid ribbon.

Rusty,
Thanks. That is cool. Really cool. I will be paying attention to this thread. I hope others will post more applications of this....

The technology has existed for many years. To do a passenger car with many windows would not be cheap hardware wise. Also, getting the realistic action on the screens will take some doing as well.
It's a really neat idea, but only for people with deep pockets right now.
Thanks GRJ. Good to know.
