Here we see National Locomotive RS-36 1800 hard at work drilling cars on my friend's layout. National Locomotive was a subsidiary of Morristown, NJ based short line Morristown & Erie, hence the M&E inspired paint scheme. National Locomotive was created for the purpose of rebuilding as well as leasing and/or selling locomotives. The 1800 was rebuilt from the former Norfolk & Western 2871. The unit was originally delivered to the Nickel Plate as its 871 in 1962.

The locomotive is an Atlas Trainman model. It is sold as DCC ready. We placed a chip in the model prior to operation and it has proven to be a splendid runner. Only 40 RS-36 units and 35 examples of the very similar RS-32 were built so we're fortunate to have this model available to us in plastic.
