Hey FrankTrain!
Holy cow you really made my pre-York week! I grew up in Naperville and those photos make me so homesick! If you ever attend the October York, I hope to meet you so I can get the "skinny" on whats new in Naperville. The photos look to be taken right close to either the old cow tunnel or old Kroehler factory.
My wife grew up in a house in SW PA right along the Monongahela River, and I've been visiting there regularly since 1980. I love going there especially because her house sits 40 yards or so from the RR tracks. You can see from this picture, taken from the side of her yard, how close they are.
Trains rumble through there a few times a day, at all hours....always coal. Last month we were visiting when I heard one approaching, so I ran outside and had my daughter take my picture trackside. I had my back to the train, as you can see, and so I did not notice the very interesting third engine (I almost said "dummy.") in the lineup.
It wasn't until the train had passed me and I turned to walk back to the house that I saw the BSNF diesel. This was HUGE for me...only the third time I've ever see one in action...twice on this line and once a few years ago here in Wyckoff along a NYS&W line. May not seem like much but when you rarely see one, it's an exciting moment. And to think I almost missed it!

Mike,
I can tell you grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. Your wife moved you up to the right side. I love it, great photos. I always liked your garage layout too since I also have a garage layout. We got to make do with what ever space we have.
This afternoon I got a shot of the eastbound Mid-Atlantic Flyer easing into the Maryville Station. It has been awhile since I'd seen Fred the Fireman. Some may recall, Fred sustained a minor injury in the "Cows on the Track" incident. It's good to see him now working one of the system's crack passenger trains.
Have a good weekend! Bo
A couple of weeks ago my wife and I had the chance to visit a garden railway. This is a privately owned road that traditionally has an open house for the public twice a year. When we visited, we found out the owner had died earlier this year and his widow had requested her sons to put on the open house in his memory. Whether or not they will continue the tradition, they could not say. With the whole family story running in the back of my mind, I took a bunch of pictures. Enjoy a selection of them.

This ArtPrize 2014 entry is a large mural that was an onsite work in progress today at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids and was entered by artist Tom Panei, who is shown in the photo. The medium is chalk pastels blended on multiple wood panels to create one large piece. The subject is the Pere Marquette 1225, built in 1941 and the art piece measures 8 ft. high and 28 ft. in length.
And this is the Pere Marquette 1223...that is on display in Grand Haven, MI...
Then of course...there is the real deal!

Yes the Metra is right next to the old Kroehler "Worlds Largest Furniture Manufacture". I'm not going to York this fall but I might make it next year and I would love talk about whats happening around town.

Same here!

Yes I like the blue and orange but I really miss the old cascade green and white!

Very cool pic!
HOT WATER,
I put a pic of your favorite steamer position...fireman. Did you ever visit the SP2472? Ever sit in the cab. Would you be able to fire it?

Fantastic pics this week. I have been very busy this past week and haven't gone near the layout. However, at the hospital I work at, I noticed some new artwork on the corridor leading to the CC.
The first pic shows the the C&O tracks looking west towards downtown Richmond and the Triple Crossing.
The second pic shows the Seaboard arch bridge over the James just east of I-195.
Peter
Peter....great artwork. I drove right by that bridge every week for work. Rarely see a train crossing but it does happen from time to time. Even harder to get a picture since there is nowhere (safe) to pull over but I tried.
Also like seeing the CSX coal trains waiting below the bridge and winding around the riverbank.
I spent some time this week detailing out these K-Line F7's from the year 2000. Aside from painting grab irons, etc. I added a few, even though I found out that CP never had F7's in their roster.
Here's the end result with wipers and wind vents added.

No pics from York?!?
SIRT,
Your weathering and scenes are outstanding!
Matt
Hey Rich.
Looks like your three-of-a-kind beats my three-of-a-kind.
We were having a discussion on another thread regarding OGR commemorative rolling stock. Picked up the 2-bay hopper a couple of weeks ago; got the box cars last week, including one autographed by the OGR staff. I switched the couplers and wheels out for 2-rail and Kadees and installed additional weight.
Great photos everyone!!
Hump Yard Mike: Outstanding job on the crane and the scene is absolutely beautiful!
Alan
Matt, I don't blame you one bit for bragging. SF has been unbelievable over the past few years. Good start for you last night.
