I've always held an appreciation for the second generation high hood units which were operated by the Norfolk & Western and Southern Railway. I therefore present this week N&W high hood units in multiple scales. The 1554 is an Atlas N scale SD35 and the 534 is a Life-Like HO Proto 2000 GP30. Note the long hood is designated as the front on both units per prototype practice.

Darn, that HO track sure looks nice...
This is what happens when a N scale remote switch burns out. I carelessly let some items come into contact with a remote switch button a few months ago and thinking well maybe it will still work, which it did for awhile. The switch motor finally burned up after a few months after the incident occurred. Changing the motor out was easy, but unfortunately I will not have the old made in USA unit I had purchased in 1989. Below is a picture of the top housing on the left and the bottom on the right.

Great picture's everyone!
Here is something to do with a burned-out N scale engine: Make a Christmas tree ornament out of it! First, remove the shell to take out all the heavy parts that will not be needed. Next, put the shell back on and balance the loco on your finger to determine the center balance point. Mine happened to be right in the center of a cooling fan. Take the shell back off and drill a small hole at that point to accept a small cotter pin, which will act as an ornament hanger. Install the cotter pin, reattach the shell, and voila!
(I took four photos, but can't transfer them over, for some reason. If I find out why, I will attach them).
Here is a video i did tonight running my CSX n scale train with new the cars.
