Finally started!
In the beginning - the empty room.
First sections of the framing.
Now adding in the middle stringers and cross braces.
First plywood sheet goes down.
Aisle entry "gate" which will be the lift bridge feature.
More to come...
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!
Tom
Last week I posted a photo of an MTH building that I had reworked to make it look more realistic. This past week, I worked on a Lionel building to make it appear similar to the Hotel Royal in Port Royal PA. The real hotel was built in 1902 and operated as a hotel until sometime in the 1930's. Thereafter, it was used as an apartment and to house a business.
The model started out as a Lionel "O'Grady's Tavern." In order to upgrade it, I repainted the whole structure with an appropriate brick color, removed the toy like awnings with a porch like the prototype, and replaced that godawful cornice that comes with the building. I also added window sills and lintels. Finally, it was weathered with an wash of India ink diluted in alcohol.
Below are photos of the original model, the reworked structure, and a photo of it taken in 2016. The real structure was torn down earlier this year.
I went to visit my good friend Alan Grazanio yesterday and we talked structures and models. Here's a few he's currently working on

Cappilot. What is used for the grass in that first pic near the lake? Looks awesome.
I hope everyone has a Happy Holiday & gets to run a lot of trains!!!
One thing about trains: It doesn't matter where they're goin'. What matters is, deciding to get on
Pandora decided to make the engineer cap her bed
Lucia enjoying some train time
NS ES44DC 7501 leads a westbound manifest past the replacement signals at Capels, WV
A pair of NS SD40E helpers drift downgrade as they pass the brickyard crossing in Altoona, PA at sunset
NS Dash-9 9646 leads Jersey bound 290 past the former Southern depot in Danville, VA
An ex Conrail Dash-8 leads 201 past one of the few remaining N&W signals at Radford, VA
Here's a little bit of red & green in the spirit of Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!!

I think I bought it from Scenic Express a long time ago. The box has SILFLOR on it but no other manufacturer markings. I like it for my module because I can push the deer into it and it will hold them.
Steve, Beautiful shots of the Budd Cars ! Merry Christmas

Just a few shots around my layout before year end....and also a photo of the FRISCO footbridge here in Springfield.

Nice job
Sam, gotta love that 779
So here is a car I've been putting together for my 3 year old son. At this point he is still far more interested in his Thomas Wooden Railway, but he has recently started asking me more about my trains, and running my trains. We had already made some decisions on Christmas gifts but, I decided to go ahead and give him his first O Gauge car which would combine two of his favorite things - trains, and tractors.
This is just a basic flat from Menard's, and Athern 1:50 John Deere tractors I picked up. I weathered the deck, added some chains and wheel chocks.

Hi Dave
As for the rip cuts I do those on a Micro Mark table saw with a carbide blade. All cross cuts are done by hand. It's a lot of work and my hands hurt too LOL

A few updates from my layout in progress:
Unboxed the Lionel Santa Fe F3s today - the Virginian train is in honor of my in-laws who are in town from Charlottesville
Temporary Display Setup in our hall closet. The ATSF 2-10-4 and BN SD45 are new to me
This time last year the wife and I were on the Amtrak Crescent on our way up to NYC, so I've got the Amtrak on the layout in honor of the experience. I need to find a Phase V Amtrak Genesis and some Amfleet cars! The Freight train on track 2 is the wife's train (led by the Virginian Rectifier) - she likes animal cars :-)
