"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Happy HONGZ day everybody!

As I'm sure you know, I always enjoy your vintage HO stuff!

Jerry? Is that you? Really, really, really you?

WHERE 'YA BEEN, BUB???

OH... never mind... runnin' trains and makin' gains. Got it. Well, you've been missed by this Oakie.

Me? I'm still living the soap opera of my life that's otherwise known as "model railroading". I sometimes get so excited about what the next episode might be about I almost pee my pants. Wonder what I'll do next?

IN the meantime, I'll let a couple pics give you some clues...

These were finished up and readied for paint/decals in about 3-4 weeks the latter part December...

And in the past couple weeks or so, these have all been assembled and ready to be assigned to their specific boiler/cabs they will eventually receive...

And the past couple of days added the one pictured below, plus another one assembled from a NOS kit I had...

I'm still suffering from ESD*, but I've FINALLY found a work-around that's gonna' fill the bill.

"One of these days" I'll catch ya'll up on my personal version of the soap opera "As The Rails Turn".

Us vintage types gotta' stick together.

Re: Busy...

Well, IF all goes as planned, this upcoming week I'm heading off to Fort Smith to pick up a pair of folding saw horses and L brackets, then it's to the lumber yard and get some A-C 1/2" plywood, and HOPEFULLY all of the above will come together and by end of the week, I'll be cutting some plywood and installing the stage for the lower level of my layout.

BUT..

Monday is supposed to be mostly sunny with a high of 72. It's been WEEKS since I've had decent weather, so ALL of Monday will be spent aboard my dual sport motorcycle riding amid scenes like this:

Hi Andre:

You have pretty much summed it up.  Running trains with a round robin group that I participate in most Fridays, and making gains on my railroad.  Interesting in this is how little I actually run trains on my railroad.  I actually had a rare treat on Friday.  We were short crews, so I ran the train show in the first photo I posted above.  Most of the time, as a layout host, I'm usually just making sure that the railroad runs correctly, and if it does, watch the show and call crews.  And I'm quite fine with that.  Watching the operating plan unfold is quite satisfying.

I have been following your posts both here and on MRH.  VERY glad to see that you have "stayed the course" and moved on with the HO modeling, especially with the KC themed layout.  Are you still going to build the KC layout in your basement, or is it moving to your layout building?

Regards.

Jerry

Hi 'ya Jerry! Nice to chatting with you again. Let's see what'cha said...

"Interesting in this is how little I actually run trains on my railroad.  I actually had a rare treat on Friday."

I have never experienced that. My past layouts only accommodated about one other operator, so I ran trains, too. I/we would simply assume the roll of dispatcher as needed and do so verbally if some adjustments to the schedules were needed. Given the dearth of regional model railroaders here in my neck of the woods, I assume I will be lucky to even find ONE operator this time around!

"I have been following your posts both here and on MRH."

Oh yeah... MRH... I need to catch them up on my goin's on of late. Quite a bit has happened.

"VERY glad to see that you have "stayed the course" and moved on with the HO modeling..."

Well, I really did look at going back to traditional size 3-rail via a Kansas City area layout theme and calling it good... but there's still a bunch of "scale" left in me at this point. However, in accomplishing the above modeling that I've pictured, I HAVE noticed that doing fine and tedious work isn't as "fall off the log" easy as it was some 20 years ago!! However, I can still do it, so I'm moving forward and making hay while I can.

"...especially with the KC themed layout.  Are you still going to build the KC layout in your basement, or is it moving to your layout building?"

Okay, I might be misunderstanding your understanding of what I thought wuz understood... (???)... anyway...

Yes, I AM firmly committed to modeling via my Kansas City & Gulf freelance CONCEPT.

However, I will NOT be modeling the Kansas City AREA as was discussed on these forums some time ago, and again recently.

It's like this: After kicking around the pros/cons of representing an urban KC industrial area on my layout space versus modeling a slice of the KC&G's "Ozark Sub" (as I had done before with my original KC&G layout over 20 years ago) my roots in mountain railroading have won out and I have decided I am going to return to the Ozarks with my KC&G concept. SO, my layout will reflect a portion of the KC&G's "Ozark Sub", circa early-mid 1960s.

Confused yet?

Don't feel bad, I'm often confused, too. Even dazed at times.

ANYHOO...

Just tonight I've started a thread trying to explain and make some sense out of my madness... but that ain't easy. In fact, it's not easy making meaningful progress when one suffers from ESD (as you have seen in my ramblings before), but I THINK I've come up with a very workable solution, which I'll eventually get around to posting in my "Meet The 'Ozark Sub" in HO Scale" thread. (Which can be seen here: https://ogrforum.com/...zark-sub-in-ho-scale )

But for now, I'm going to let my fingers recover after typing all of the above!!

All fer this 'un!

Andre
