I just finished building a Quonset Hut from a old, simple Plasticville kit.  It has become the HQ for a small National Guard unit that is in my town.  Also...this posting is in reverence of Memorial Day.  MattCalifornia National Guard Soldiers at their Quonset Hut HQNational Guard Amory Quonset Hut

Hi Edward M. Forster, I like your idea of having a foundation/floor elevating the hut. I had not thought of that. I assume you know what you are talking about there and saw that feature in real-life, so Thanks for the idea and sharing how good it can look. I see you believe in weathering these huts, also.cc

Here's a little effort I enjoyed doing.

Ok I followed last weekend and there was a lot of great photos, Just never got around to comment. Hectic Weekend!!!!!! Life of a Soccer Dad

This weekend as usual a lot of great stuff posted.  I  am finally going through it now and yes my finger hurts and need more coffee!!!!!

Scott this thread always rocks.

J Daddy finally did it and turned back into a kid or at least showing his true self with his Mini Me.

TrumpTrain: Geep looks good but have a question. Third pic, Doesn't the guy pushing the create realize that it would help move the overgrown chalk block first on that flat car?

SIRT: As usual shows how its done. The first photo of the cattle car , not sure if there was a statement there but would have been funny if one of those workers was standing underneath. Ok, sick humor.

Walt once again takes us through memory lane with a bit of self promotion.

PennsyPride94 nice video.

PAT KN Nice tribute video.  Thanks!!!

Last week (or was it the week before), we saw the return of MOONSON and photos from is past( Layout). I noticed frank was standing by the door with his dog taking in the activities going on.( Third and fourth pics ).

boin106  The Quonset Hut came out real nice. Nice enough that frank  returned  and revisited memories of his youth. ( Photo in his reply)

Ok here is mine: A little GN and NP action  Ok maybe I need more coffee.

It must have been the potbelly that gave me away, huh.

Walkersville Southern Railroad, just about an hour from Washington DC and Baltimore, is running STEAM! 1930 built Lehigh Valley Coal Company 126, an 0-6-0 Vulcan built, owned by the Gramling Family of Ashley, Indiana is pulling the usually diesel-hauled trips from Walkersville, MD to Frederick, MD and return. Steam will run tomorrow, Memorial Day and next Saturday and Sunday ONLY! #126 will be loaded on a truck and it will be off to the next stop (Delaware in this case). Outside of the 611 running out of Manassas, VA next weekend, #126 is the ONLY steam operating in the DC/Baltimore region this year as it appears WMSR won't have their #1309 operating this year and the B&O Museum in Baltimore also won't be running steam this year, unlike the past several years.

Until last summer, I was a volunteer with WSRR and had the extreme pleasure to fire #126 on several trips. Hard, dirty work but a LOT of fun. I learned a TON about steam doing that!

Big step into the future for Walkersville Southern - a newly rebuilt crossing with welded rail and crossing signals! Once the signals are active, hand flagging the crossing will (for the most part) be a thing of the past! Signals are also coming for other crossings in the future. IMG_3799IMG_3808IMG_3809IMG_3811IMG_3812IMG_3820IMG_3824

I noted several coaches repainted, holes patched and nice logos applied. They looked great!IMG_3825IMG_3826IMG_3827

Former Pennsy 44 ton switcher is looking nice...this loco is privately owned. Other locos at WSRR include 2 Davenport 0-4-0 switchers (including one with side rods), a Plymouth Switcher, 2 Pennsy 44 ton switchers, a 45 ton switcher and an EMD Model 40 center cab 40 ton switcher. IMG_3835

Also freshly repainted was this NKP caboose. It really looks great!IMG_3836

Your permanent record has been awarded ten merits for use of Southern E8A units only -- without E8B units (of which Southern had none) on your passenger train.

Tom true no E8 or E7 B-units.  But Southern did have four E6 B-units that were rebuilt to E8 rating etc. in the early mid-50's.  They were retired Aug/Sep 67.

My brother and I took some of our kids to the Illinois Railway Museum today. We got real lucky when they decided to take the Nebraska Zephyr out and run her!!!! What a great deal...where else can you ride a legendary train like this for the same price as a cheeseburger in the city??!!!

Suzukovich - I love your commentary and humor!!  What the third photo ( you refer to )  does not tell ... is the fellow pushing the box had been out all night at a bar and came directly to work the day the photo was taken.  He obviously had no coffee before work that morning!!

I really like your  photos of GN NP!!

Hello All, These photos are for clarification on the MTH-Premier Southern E-8 Diesel engine. The engines from left to right are:

MTH-Premier Southern E-8 (2002) Left

MTH-Premier Southern E-8 (2010) Middle

MTH-Premier Southern E-8 (2016) Right

There is also 2 pictures showing Southern E-8 Engine# 6900 with ditch lights....................RogerW.IMG_0404IMG_0405IMG_0407IMG_0409

NC&StL Locomotive 576 – Centennial Park, Nashville, Tennessee
Visited on Sunday while on our family reunion.

The only surviving Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Dixie Locomotive, number 576 is a 4-8-4 steam engine built by ALCO in 1942. The Class J-3 Locomotive was known as a Dixie in the NC&StL, (called a “northern" elsewhere)

O the humanities! a pink GG1 running on the AGHR layout.  O well it is southern Cal.

Don't worry John, our pink (or is that BPLE?) GG-1 will be headed away from AGHR later this year, out to DC!  I'm sure there are more Pennsy fans out there who can truly appreciate this command controlled, rivet counter's nightmare
