The weekend is here and you have made it to see another edition of Weekend Photo Fun!!!

I have been working on my large viaduct area on my layout this week. That got me to looking back to some older photos of that area.

Great shots guys!

Its neat to see the progressions of your viaduct Scott.

Mike, your L&N E6s are some of my favorites

GEF   Your skills are definitely up to the task - go ahead!

and Alan,  well, what can we say?  Excellent shots!

Here's our Erie Berkshire on her farewell run and has gone north to another road. The company negotiated a deal for a new Legacy UP Mikado arriving next week from Chicago

I was amazed at the detail on the 10 year old Berkshire...

Something a little different from me this week (HEY, I hear that clapping. Stop it now )

This week it's something for my fellow Picksburgers (as Tom would say).

I found this paper bag in a box of stuff that has things from the early to mid sixties in it so I suppose this is from that time frame.  I would guess it would hold one, maybe two, six packs.  It's never been used or unfolded and I certainly wasn't of age during that time frame.  I can't validate it's year, I can only guess mid sixties.

I grew up in McKeesport and I remember a Duquesne Beer building on, I think, Market Street.  I don't think it was a brewery, just a main distributor, but I'm not sure about that either.

But is goes nicely with the MTH boxcar from 2008 (sorry about the image: it's a digital shot of a printed picture).

Walt: Man, you make the memories flood back!! A kid in the '60's, back seat of the car, rollin' on parkway east to downtown., the big neon sign: "Have A Duke", on the south side, across the Mon from J&L,burnin' off the sulpher like the Olympic torch!! And getting my dad a "Duke"-7oz. pony bottles only, he allowed himself 2 a night!!

Man o Man!!!

Walt and Pete, Duquesne Pilsner is again being brewed (at the old Rolling Rock brewery in Latrobe).  I've tried it, and it is pretty good (don't know how it compares to the brand way back when).

I've been hoping that MTH will do a Premier 36' wood-sided Duquesne reefer.  I passed on the RailKing version as I prefer the Premier wood-sided reefers (one of MTH's best rolling stock models, and Atlas-like in their quality).

Well, I finally started working on my scrapyard scene.

Nothing fancy yet.  I scrapped an old F unit (not sure what brand the shell was), have an Alco RS3 as the switcher and my Atlas Pere Marquette gondola is doing the collecting.  I repurposed an old Lionel Amtrak shack as the yard office and have one of their repro autos parked out front.  I need to take a run up to my LHS tomorrow to get some stuff.  I'm actually going to spread some ballast across the whole board to look like a gravel surface and I'll throw in some weeds and dirt to make it look, well.... dirty  A few more details such as a crane and some figures and it should be good.

Here it is so far.

Ok here are a few pics of my layout this week!

A new three engine consist of two NF AC6000s and a CN Dash pulling a long line of intermodal!

I had to have a place for the cute girls to work!  So I opened a Frosty Bar painted and lit up by me complete with ice cream coolers and menu boards.

Looks like someone ordered up a new Cadillac being delivered via the NYC!  This would look period correct if it weren't for the Rhino in the forground.... oh well.

My YB6 heads up a consist of 9 Atlas refers, mostly beer cars... so I call it the beer train!

Flagg Coal 75 Operating a Special Railfan Excursion this evening. Seen here alongside Route 15 for a Photo Runby. The train is seen running on the "regular" route south towards Frederick. Volunteers have been clearing the northern section and we went on that section of the line before heading south...when on the northern end of the line, it was the first revenue passenger train WS has run on that line that wasn't a dinner train and it was the first steam locomotive on the line since 1948. The engine was run on a test run Thursday on the regular line and that run marked the first time that portion of the line has seen steam since 1948. Today marked the first day revenue steam trains ran on the line since 1948. Fun was had by all!

DSC_7050 I picked up a New Engine when I visited Arizona Memorial Day weekend. Went to go see some of my boys down in 'Arizona Train Depot' in Mesa. MTH GP30 Rio Grande. Brought to my favorite Rail Spot in Arizona; EX-SP,now UP, over in Tempe, Arizona, right off the Salt River Bridge. The Track the engine is on, is governed by 2 de-railers, and its a siding, so, no normal trasffic on this track. The track next to me is always in use..

GEF, lookin good! I highly suggest you watch Rich Battista's video on weathering Steamers...he takes you step by step and really shows you how to get an AMAZING result! It is well worth the $12.50 for the video! His steamer technique is simple and probably the best results I have ever seen!

Heres the link:

I've been hesitant to weather equipment for various reasons, but Jack "The Apprentice" Kemph uses a light dusting which brings out the details without making the equipment look like it hasn't been maintained for its entire life.

Well, yesterday, "The Apprentice" was the instructor and he taught me his technique. It was surprisingly simple, which makes me wonder why I didn't do this before. Those of you who have told me that I should weather may now say "I told you so."

Alone, the cars look pretty "normal" like they have collected a little dust from the road.

Before and after comparison shows that even light dusting makes a significant difference.

You'll find that it works just as well on locos to bring out details.

Thanks, but Jack deserves the big credit, because I wouldn't have done it without his influence and guidance on the technique. Now I have to go out and get a couple of air brushes, a compressor and LOTS of paint.
