I visited Tuesday with a group of 12, all family.  Started at the O Winston Link museum.  I agree that you could spend all day in that museum.  In the stairwell there is a glass observation booth with a bench that overlooks the tracks.  Great place to watch the trains.  Parked in view was NS BP4 #999.

After everyone was done, we all invaded Beamers25.  Great food and service.  Next stop was the Virginia Transportation Museum.  The 611 was outside, along with the water tender.  You could see the NS passenger cars in the distance. My first time at the museum and the size of the Class A and Class Y impressed me the most.

Is that a GG1 in the background?  WHY a GG1 in Roanoke?

Doesn't every self-respecting McRailroad Museum need one?

But it is true that this is the VIRGINIA Museum of Transportation, and as such represents railroading in the entire state of Virginia. PRR G's did come to Potomac Yard in Alexandria, so there's the connection.
Another question could be why VMT has a Wabash E-8?
