This was about a week or so ago - settlement hopefully sometime late May / June

Everthing is in storage and lots of “planning” in my head 😊

We’re relocating to Charleston SC from Holland PA - my business is still “up north” so I’ve been doing a lot lot of back and forth - can’t wait to get in that room and get started

Hopefully you are under roof soon - keep us posted

At this point, my layout is a work in progress. 20220409_150541

I now have a good foundation in place.

Benchwork is next on the agenda ( after walls and ceiling of course).

What a beautiful spot for a layout!!

Good looking O  GAUGE figures in the photo Steve

I thought something similar.  Leave it to you, Dallas, to word that comment just right!

A replacement truck from Lionel arrived for my BNSF ES44AC. It had been a bit loud when running and my NS ES44AC was super quiet. I tracked it down to a slight binding in the gears of the front truck. Not enough to affect performance but I didn't want to wait until it did plus the sound was terrible.

Pretty easy project, swap the rollers and side frames over and reconnect.

I did notice a few wear marks on the replacement truck, some of the paint was rubbed where the side frames mount and there were faint marks on the wheels that indicate it had seen brief track time. I wonder if Lionel is salvaging parts from returns they can't fix?

Anyway no binding I could find in the gears of the new truck, got it all back together but didn't have time to track test it. I'll have to wait until I can find some more train time.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Picked up six 022 switches and four 031 switches last week. Spent a good portion of the day taking scotchbrite pads to the tracks and cleaning them up. They really weren’t bad at all and they work better than the one 022 I already have. Well, all but one of the 022R which isn’t powering up at all. Just need to open it up and check it out. Ideas on what to check for anyone??

Also will need some LED bulbs, 4 light housing covers (probably just 2 though since others will be in an underground yard), and I’ll need six controllers unless I opted out and do my own switch board. I do like the Lionel controllers with the lights though. The switches came with three controllers I can rebuild so we will see what I come across at York. The one 031 is missing the short extension too but that doesn’t matter to me. I’ll have to grab some pins and insulator pins at York also. Less then 3 weeks away! It’ll be my first York!!!03CDDD40-35A4-45C6-BA56-C39C24ACAAA38766934B-0CCC-466D-899A-AE19B7C0DA07

*Edit: I solved the switch that wasn’t powering up. The metal prong next to the fixed voltage plug just needed to be bent back into place. I’m very pleased with my purchase and all switches throw magnificently!

This is what I’m taking about! My bride, while supportive, isn’t quite on board with this ambitious approach to my train room desires. But I love this!

My wife has said, wouldn't it be nice to have a nice outbuilding for a layout.  If I did what Steve is doing, I would have to come out of retirement to pay for it, then never have time for the layout!

Terry and Steve, congratulations. We love the new building photos! They bring back a lot of memories.

Things are slowly coming together in the engine service area. The Lubritorium building and interior has been completed as far as possible until the pit is installed, track is in place, and the floor is down.

This is an ugly building, just as they were on the N and W. Serviceable and ugly. Paula likes it because it is a reasonable replica complete with 24 hoses that are used to dispense oil, grease, etc. It will be a good addition when completed.

After dinner, we went out to the layout and hooked up one of the MTH floodlights. With the lights off, it was blinding, far too bright. When Alexa changed to the blue night view, things were much better. We need Rich’s presence when we place the lights and adjust the brightness. The area is too large for two people to do it. This is not a brightly lit football field.

Jstewart, I have a Lionel Legacy Chessie SD40 that has a noise in the front truck that I can't place.  Maybe I should just get another truck and be done with it too.

Bob, the crew in the cab looks great!

Mark, I debated over it for a while, $60 plus shipping for the truck. When you think about it that's almost a 7th of the cost of the engine new. But the sound was getting to me and I was getting worried it would turn into more than a slight bind and then I would have wished I had replaced it.

You can check to see if yours is binding by removing the truck and spinning the wheels by hand.

Josh, Thank you.  I will check it like you said.

Bill, looks great!  One question; is 'lubritorium' a Norfolk and Western term?  I never heard of it.  It actually sounds like 'crematorium' to me.  If I don't ask, I'll never know.

Mark, truth be told, we had seen photos but didn’t know what they were. Harry Hieke and I were talking one winter day and he mentioned a “Lubritorium.”

We looked it up, found photos, and said, “Why not, few people will have heard of one.” So we planned what to do, originally deciding to build one from leftovers of a Korber kit.

Again we were talking to Harry and he remembered an old building that he had stored in a neighbor’s garage; “It might be just the thing. When it gets warmer, we will dig it out.”

So here it is, almost ready to be installed hopefully next week, knee depending. It has been fun to make a few changes and do the interior. I am sure that some of the N and W followers will know all about them.

We will use the Korber parts for a machine shop addition to another building. No more stuff after that on this side. Time to install everything that is lying around and do scenery.

Afternoon guys what great work is being done buy all you fine folks! I know you all like it when I list everyone, but today is not one of those days. I am sorry for those guys! But I do want to say that I think things are looking great!

@aussteve Steve welcome aboard, I was there about 4 years ago! I hope you have a 4 legged inspector to help you along!

@RSJB18 Bob, looks outstanding! But I may be getting forgetful, but I thought the guys were a little taller. They seem to be missing something! LOL

Well guys I did get a little time out in the train room today and was looking at an old bumper I got with the prewar stuff from a friend and a new bumper I got from Jeff the Train Tender. The old one is red and the new one is brown. My question to you all is should I what color should I paint both of them? Photo below.

I hope you all have a great week! I hope to get back out to the train room tomorrow as I got more parts for my gang car and hope to get it running! I know this is silly, but its the first time I had something really that wasn't DCC and something I can work on somewhat! LOL

Remember to please try and find time to have fun with your layout and trains!

Afternoon/Evening everyone I hope you all had a great day and got a lot done!

Thanks for all your input on the bumper color! Red it will be! LOL

@SIRT Steve, nice job on the cobblestone looks great and the weathering job on the Burlington car is outstanding! Happy retirement!

Well guys I was able to get out to the train room today. My plan was to get the Lionel 50 gang car running as I got all the parts from Jeff at the Train Tender! But every time I put it together the armature would bind up. I don't know what the deal is it has a new gear, bearing, Thrust washers, Thrust bearing, even the small ball bearing for on top of the armature till I lost it on the floor somewhere! LOL

I will be calling Jeff to order a couple extra and pick his brain if he might know why its binding! I also hope maybe someone here knows why it might be binding! Any and all help would be great!

I hope you all have a great week and fun with your layout and trains!
