Spent more $$$ for yet more O scale detail parts for a couple of PW F3 repaint projects.  Typical for me that the shells cost $25 ea., and then get $25+ in parts and materials--hobby math.

Converted the prototype dimensions a NP NCL offset dome into proportions to apply to cutting an offset dome on a LIONEL 15" aluminum coach; and compared window arrangements of prototype dome cars with the LIONEL coach in the hope that I could modify the LIONEL to closely approximate the prototype--it's a no go for my very modest skills.

Serviced another pair of PW horizontal motors and may need to order one or two new brush holders--yet, to be determined.

This weekend I ordered a Hakko FS888D soldering station and some 63/37 solder.  I gave up on my old iron so as soon as the new one arrives I will start soldering pigtails to my Gargraves track and start laying track.  Also, this weekend my wife and I met our first great grandchild, a 3 week old boy.  In a few years we will start him on his first train set.

Jim, Congratulations!!!  WOW!! Haven't been there, yet.

Do some train shopping for the future engineer here  or here.  Get him started early with "train" gear.

A little more track work. When I put in the 072 curves I used more 10" straight sections because it was easier. Today I took them out a cut some 40" straights to fit, makes more smoother and quieter running. Cleaned the track good today. Have been using "AWESOME" sold at Dollar General sprayed on a white pieces of paper towel. Works !! Biggest problem is the dirty pieces of paper towel. Awesome looks like lemonade but a strong alkaline cleaner that will cut oil and grease and not rust the track.

Yesterday I got the lumber I needed so today I'll put together the two frames I need for the tables. I'll have to do them in phases. Do them in the garage and then take them up to the attic and put them together in place. Attic is kind of cramped with not much maneuvering room anymore. Don't know how I did it over the years but I managed to put twenty pounds of meat in a ten pound bag, trains that is............Paul

Had a Blitz session this weekend. Glued down, painted, and detailed a bunch of MDF streets, finished up detailing (For now) the hatch, used up about 1/2 gallon misblend browwn paint from the hrdware store, about 20 bottles of craft paint, painted 30 ft of gargraves rail pollyS rust,  chewed through 8 shaker bottles of ground foam flocking, not to mention about  half gallon of white glue. Phew! Just need to finish one 2x2 area of the upper deck, wire in the buildings permanently, ballast the track and plop the hatch in for the (for now) last time. Lotta work in a short time!   Pics friday if I feel like it.

Start him this Xmas, by next year he will be a budding pro.

Cute young man, congrats to all!

Knowing that any wartime layout would need war bond posters and such, I printed a few out, along with some movie posters that are correct for the timeframe on the layout. Those even have the correct release dates and the name of the real-life nearest movie theater, but you'd need a magnifying glass to read those.

Here are but a few that got put up last night:

I tried to make some scale gas ration stickers for the cars on the layout, but they simply turned out too small to be able to cut them out.

yesterday me and a good friend of mine drove from Seaford Delaware to Carmel NY to pick up the turntable and roundhouse from Eliot Scher they were awesome and he was so nice to hold them for me during the long winter I can't wait to install them on my layout he was already thinking  about his next adventure in trains I never saw his layout but talking to him I can see what passion he put into every bit of the Munoz lines thanks Eliot

Began assembling a "roll your own" power supply per gunrunnerjohn's "recipe" for the LED lighting conversion for conventional operation.  So, I added the choke for possible DCS operation, full bridge rectifier, capacitor, and quick disconnect connector to the DC-DC buck boost module.  Two Three down and three two to go.  I'm going to try the new pencil tip that arrived this afternoon in place of the screwdriver tip that came with the Weller iron.

EDIT:  Pencil tip on the iron worked great!  Wish I'd have gotten it earlier.

John's "recipes" are virtually fool-proof since he not only identifies what components are used, but also supplies links to the various vendors--just click on the links he supplies and purchase the items.  Thank you, John!

I removed 7 Plasticville and Klineville buildings, and just moved the Menards Garden Center and Menards store.  I  can now fit in the Menards Hobby Shop, Plumbing Supply and  Moe's Garage next to them.   Looking forward to their receipt.  I have the Menards 3 way power supplies to do the job. The Garden Center, Store and Seed and Feed are now together in a complex and look awesome with the basement lights off, along with my 12 other Lionel and Kline lighted operating accessories. Kudos to  Menards.  You guys are really doing a fabulous job.  The Feed and Seed is a knockout, IMHO.  Whoever does your design work is a first rate a artist.  Thank you so much!!!!

I haven't posted in this topic for awhile. back at xmas time I took the layout out and started fresh. tonight I continued working on the lower level of the layout doing scenery even tho the rest of the layout isn't even built yet but I figured it would be easier to do it now before the middle and upper levels were put on..the area I am working on is a reversing loop with a small yard in the middle. My first real yard I wanted the yard ballast black and I think I got that. here's some photos of tonight's scenery session

Took delivery of an old Williams GG1 chassis for the Gi-raffe Express:

After removing the caked on Cosmoline, regreasing the worm gear and oiling the bearings, it toddles along fine!

From the same seller, a Lionel 41 switcher chassis:

This is going to be fitted with a Pittman single truck work motor body and turned into a unique little trolley snow sweeper!

These figures I found at a local show the guy just had them in a loose bag.  No markings and I have never run across them again.  I do have others that are wearing even less and those are from scenic express.  There is also a guy that sells "very detailed" woman in the orange hall at York.  In case anyone is wondering my wife has a great sense of humor and actually bought most of those woman for me.
