VERY nice fine detail on the arms Lee. You, or decals? I can't find an edge, lol.
The Switchtower Ghost is back. This light turned on again and the sconce lamp under the flagman's shack' flag went out again. They are not even on the same transformer, let alone in the same area, lol.
I ran out of accumulated lumber before I could finish both sets of slats for my new cars.
....so, I was forced to run to the "food library" for the first box of fudgecicles of 2017.
After virociously addressing the problem I'm nearly ready to finish carpentry and start putting some color on them.
Using fudgcicle sticks and ignoring nearly unexplainable "electral magic" is not the lowering of O gauge standards....much.
...well, maybe this use is
...but not toothing off chunks of fudgecicle as an excuse to create more lumber in general.
Thats part of the fun.

paul 2 posted:Today I got this in the mail. Found it for sale in the forum ad section by a forum member. Another wood chip hopper. They are like needles in a haystack to find. Layout work has been on hold but this weekend an obstacle will be removed. I was able to get rid of a treadmill which was in the way in the basement. So with that happening on Saturday I can start building the tables under the stairs going to the back of the basement. Also with RSJB18 pointing out I may have a problem with the table under the electrical panel I think I have an option now which I have to work on. Cut out the area needed in front of the panel box putting the table side cut on hinges and on the table edge side put two latches to hold the piece in place. My thinking is if access is needed I just undo the two latches and with the hinges on the other end I can open up the area. At least that is my idea. Anyways pic of the car.............Paul
Sounds like a plan Paul. Good luck with the build. Nice hopper too.
Bob
Lee, I think you did a great job on your guys wonderful detail!
Adratic, your layout is looking nice, Its nice to see you posting again!
Paul, I think your idea is a great and easy fix to the electrical panel problem!
Great work is being done by all here as usual!
Adriatic,
The ghost lights are interesting. They show the tower interior nicely. Fudgecicle lumber can be habit forming I see! The layout and trains look great!!

Nope, just painted with a magnifying glass and the smallest brushes I could find. Still not happy with how the SGT stripes turned out on the two, though.
Meanwhile, back at the bench. To accommodate future LED lighting on the layout, a DC power supply would be needed. I had purchased NOS, Power 1 circuitry and sundry months ago, but had put off assembling it all until this week. A typical large plastic electric project box was a tad too small, but that didn't matter, since one open end was necessary for air flow. Fixed voltages are 3.3VDC@15A, 5VDC@8A and 12VDC@1A and monitored from an old MRC gauge through 3 momentary buttons mounted in their won project box. Once operational, it became obvious after accidentally touching the heat sink that extra cooling should be added. A convenient 3 volt DC tap up front was perfect for the addition of a small fan. I'll know better on how successful this project was when it's operational under load.

Just went the extra mile and painted the plywood to prepare it for the messy application of scenery. Again I should have done this before laying roadbed and track...sigh!

Today I ran trains for a little bit, and did a factory reset using the DCS Remote for the two engines I was having problems with.
This morning table construction is back on track. Wasn't that the CEO said no to expansion. What was holding me up was an unused tread mill. Well this morning I was able to get rid of it so to speak. It went to a good home. Now I can start measuring for the tables. In the second picture is where the door is that is where a track or tracks will go under the stairs...........Paul

Wow Paul, you sure have an understanding wife! If I got anywhere near the washer and dryer with train tracks I would be shot! LOL I have already been informed no trains in the kitchen, living room, laundry room, bathroom, and bedroom. Doesn't leave much but in the garage and no room there. That's why I am doing an addition off the back of the garage if I ever get my building permit I can get started!
i kind of broke all them rules....oops.
Wired some switches, Started to re-do my mountain. One piece was sitting on my inner loop.

A pilot fell out of the sky the night before last, and I found it (again ) yesterday.
It looked a little different before coffee ysterday.
This chopped up pile of "temporarily discarded" "fat" bottlerocket stick could use better chains than this shiney, stainless, "battleship chain", but this was handy and actually not really too, toot big to use....i like that typo
The bands are just styrene trimmings. I keep a goodsized handful of styrene shavings in a little plastic drawer of an organiser. Lots of super tiny chunks too. I haven't done it since I was a teen, but you can also make a strong, paste form, welder/bulk filler from the scrap and a few drops of liquid stryene cement too. Shoot, I still have some empty parts trees cut down to rods dating from the 60s, lol.
I think it will get some small pins as rivets and hat pins as carriage bolts with styrene squares for nuts on the ends.
Today I'm just enjoying the perfect weather and after this post plan to commandeer the borders bedroom to run the Viginian/DT&I on the shelf layout till I'm napping. (he wanted that room vs a bigger one, lol.)
I counted and need another box of fudgcicles to finish my flat's slats too....Darn!; gotta buy more
Fireworks, fudgcicles, naps, and model railroads; ya gotta like summer

Mike g, I do have a very understanding wife and I do not have to buy her any shoes in a shoes for trains program LOL. Believe it or not I am the one that does the laundry. So the washer and dryer are mine LOL............Paul
Been staining rock castings and making Super Trees & Puff Ball trees for a day and a half. Needed to finish landscaping this shallow relief backdrop and get it back in place before I move the Coal Mine/Loader Tipple module in behind the right side of the mountain pictured below... I included a shot or two of the 8 foot long Coal Mine module so you can see how it fits in behind the shallow relief mountain backdrop... Also put up a 16 foot multi-color LED light strip along the entire blue sky backdrop so it shines up behind the mountains... Anyway had the better part of a week and a half off and decided it was time to make some serious progress on this section as it's kind of the front and center in this layout.

Bruce - allow me to show my ignorance - what's the 3.3 volts for?
George
Chris this is really coming along. I am enjoying the updates.

George,
I plan to use that tap for small incandescent bulbs and LED's ranging from 1 1/2V to 4.5V, mostly in buildings or where heat could be an issue. Stepping down with resistors or wiring in series should ballpark the actual voltage for any application. With 15 amps available at that tap, it should suffice for all the low voltage lighting on the entire layout. I'm thinking the 5V tap should handle signal lighting and the 12 volt tap for signal activation through relays. A couple of extra 12V supplies I have on hand will provide power for switch machines.

Using the batting and foam really came out great.

Cool use of scrapes. Had me worried for a second with the use of the battleship chain
great projects

Thats great you have scrap boxes from that long ago! Don't eat too many fudgecicles at one time!! LOL
Chris A,
The scenery looks great!!!
Today I photographed my tug boat.

Thanks, Paul.

LMAO! And your wife hasn't "broken" anything of yours yet? Sounds like a keeper.
Burning smoke fluid and keeping the rails polished.
Max- the ship looks great! Really finishes off the scene. Looks more like a waterfront scene that happens to have trains on it too.
Waiting for a video of the water cannons in action

Took a few minutes to put my new Lionel B&O F3 on the rails and give it a test run. Took off right out of the box but will need a good cleaning and lube. My first B&O with the blue/ gray paint scheme, they are very nice looking engines......must...resist....buying....more.....
Oh wait- who am I kidding.....

Opened the door to the train room and looked at the layout. Shut the door. Been way too busy to even run trains let alone do anything on the layout.
Things will slow down soon and I'll get back to the projects yet to be started and or completed on the layout.
Thanks, Bob.
It is the turn of our State to host the National NMRA Convention here in September this year, so I'm building a display for my Clinic. I'm in The Chair as Div Super, so the Convention will generally take up a lot of my time as well.
The boat is done cosmetically but I can't see any sea trials happening before Christmas.
Today I worked on getting measurements for three more tables. Have make a run to Home Depot to get more plywood and 1X4's and Masonite so I can start putting them together. In the meantime I rearranged shop lights over the tables. I like the ones you can string together together...........Paul
