Looks very nice Ted! Can you do me a favor and explain the Ice Melt. Is that a product or just how you got the ponding and shine?

No!  Big secret.   Actually, an experiment that coulda gone better.  Just some clear acrylic with a small drop of light gray pigment mixed in.  Folks here on the forum would have had better ideas I think.  Not completely cured yet so I may work a little more on it.

Thanks Ted, unless you posted it here I would have been in the dark for a long time till someone did! But then again you could probably get some folks here saying I an always in the dark! lol

Recently, I've built this gondola from scrap pieces of wood. I made this documenting the process. If anyone tries it, I countersunk the screw in the floor of the gondola so the head wouldn't need to be so long, and put washers between the screwhead and wood, and also the wood and the truck itself--the video doesn't state that.

Thanks very much, gents.

I'd been wanting to get to these for a while now.

My next project will be to disassemble and re-paint a 1/43 scale GMC 2.5-ton early closed-cab truck model coming from Europe. Been looking for one of those for over a year now.

My son in law has been playing around with LEDS and automobiles. today we installed a fire engine with all kind of lights and a fire chief car in a MTH fire house. it turn out great and I hoe he will be back tomorrow and show me how to post a video of it in operation. doing all I can to get ready for next Saturday when the train club comes to my house to see my trains for the first time. trying to tidey up things. i hope pictures and video follow tomorrow.

Am I the only one who can't see Carl's photos?

Sounds like you have a nice layout Carl, I would love to see the pix. Bob

i just took some pictures of the fire house and the fire truck and fire chiefs car with lights i,m going to tr and load these  pictures hope they turn out ok. I tryed to load pictures the other day and they did not take. i see the pictures on my computer. maybe I will learn this stuff some day well here goes. I hope everybody can seeIMG_1746IMG_1746IMG_1745IMG_1745IMG_1715IMG_1744IMG_1743IMG_1742IMG_1741IMG_1740IMG_1739IMG_1738IMG_1737IMG_1736

Continuing to scenic and detail the layout. I found a great animal skull online and had to find a home for it on the layout.  I have been working from the right side to the left side of the layout over the past few months, finally reached the trestle/lake area. Placed Arizona rock and sand on the mountain overlooking the lake this morning (sand is dark in the photo below due to wet water and matte medium). Will be concentrating in this area over the next few months. Installed telephone poles as well, will string up EZ-line when scenery is complete. Have been adding other details such as a battery vault near the CWI signal...will be adding alot more details as the months roll on. Fairly pleased at how all of this has turned out so far.

Great photos

Appreciate the kind words. My photography skills are subpar (heavy lifting done by my iPhone 7) and I'm learning the best way to photograph the layout...seems to be an art form all into itself. Thanks again!

I'm another one that can't see Carl's photos. I just see a white box that says, "Image Not Found".

An old friend was in from out of town and stopped by along with his wife. I spent about an hour before they arrived, getting the layout whipped back into operating condition. I haven't done much running since the open house back at the end of April, my time has almost all been spent on construction.

Things went pretty well, the engine I chose had a few signal related hiccups, but made it all the way around. I goofed and forgot to flip a crossover back to straight, and ended bumping into a parked passenger train. No harm done, except a bruised ego and some minor embarrassment. We all had a bit of a chuckle. Backed it up, threw a different crossover, and completed the run.

It's a lot of fun having the hidden yard controls moved into the dispatch corner!

I'm still having a little trouble with the turnouts in the yard since the panel move. I'll just have to figure out what the problem is. I have a few ideas.

Very effective!  Thank you for explaining your method!  I have been thinking of some puddles myself.

Elliot- could it be voltage drop due to the longer wire? That would be the first thing I'd check.

I test fit the xmas tree holder. Used wood skewer cuttings to index the stand. Looks like I'll have to paint them black also. Still putting off "winterizing" that mountain/hill. Still haven't decided how to proceed with it. Too much work to make another winter one I think. Probably just "gofurit" at some point. Ideas??

Ted- Judging by what you've done so far, go for it. I'm sure the mountain will look great.

I ballasted a section of my FT last night just to see how I like it. Looks good so the rest will get done soon.

That's what I was thinking. I've added close to 50' of length to those 22 gauge wires. Simply rerouting them could cut off most of that length. That's about a one to two hour long project.

Low voltage+small wires= headaches

I had to put a traction tire back on my new SD70 diesel. It only runs once a day or so on a very small O31 oval of RealTrax while I do my exercises and I just happened to notice the tire came off yesterday.  I have the same problem with my 4-6-0, but to put it back on the SD70, I had to remove the body and then the truck, PITA.
