Today I worked on installing some wiring for a signal for the mainline. I didn’t get it finished yet. I also spent some time running my new Golden Gate Depot Southern Pacific Harriman cars. I had run the three new coaches a few days ago. Yesterday the fourth car arrived, the observation car. It is a present from my wife. She thought the passenger train needed an observation car. These are really nicely done Harriman cars.

That's great Mark. I was looking at the pix on my phone last night and couldn't make out all of the details. I need a bigger phone or better glasses

Deuce- not personally but as long as its rigid enough to hold nails it should help.

Mark, Remember she is just trying to help! She probably always has and always will !
Jim, nice looking bridge! You can do a lot with a 4lb hammer! Just be careful you don't get something on the layout with it! LOL
Lee, sign turned out nice! Looks like something you might have bought! Good job!
W.P. you sure got some nice looking cars there and thank you for the shot video!
Brian, Nice Rio Grande!

I'm thinking that may be what Sean's Trains on YouTube used under FasTrack.

For $10 for a 4x8 sheet, it's probably worth a look.
I wired up two ADLAKE lanterns, using 14 volt bulbs along with a socket, to hang up in the trainroom. They are colors of Amber and Green. I already have a LCCA red and clear ones wire up and look cool. Got all at a great price NIB and just thought it looks cool in trainroom. Pics to come.

Mike the sad part is. I did this at home and I have a metal fab/ mechanic shop about 3 miles from my house. We haven't put heat in it yet so I just elected to to go old school on the project over being cold! LOL
Jim
Sounds like you made the right choice! Better to be warm at home then freezing your rear off at the shop!
So I'm short one 260 bumper for the O27 inner loop. Looking on eBay, pound for pound, I think these are the most expensive Lionel item ever made.

This is why I buy bumpers in bulk. That way, when I inevitably want one for some reason or another, I can't find the boxful of 'em rather than not being able to find the one I stashed somewhere...

Yes, I use the phone a lot for looking at the Forum. It is fine for text, but not photographs.

Wish I had know when I packed up the switches... red or black??? Pretty sure I have a pack of each in the same closet (and, unfortunately, they don't work with Fastrack).

Basically, you trim the lugs, drill a hole in the Fastrack and voila!

Paul,
I appreciate it, but between the switches, the Snoopy hand car, and the Mets duffle (which was an awesome sight upon opening the box), you'll have to let me buy them off of you. I'm amazed, impressed, and thankful for the kindness this community has shown this newcomer - to the board and the hobby.

The duffle bag was in the same closet... one of the spoils of having a Saturday plan at Shea for 30 years - and I had very little bubble wrap left, so it made for great packing material. Have non-train plans all weekend, so I won't be able to mail the bumpers till Monday - you can pay the shipping this time if you insist. I really just prefer that all this stuff find a new home where it will be used and appreciated.
So, red or black???

I don't like the way these only light up when there is power to the siding. My solution
is a piece of black tape on the center rail, then tape a power lead from your accessory power
source on top of that so the lug on the bumper touches the lead, problem solved
I think the purpose of them lighting up only when power is on to the siding is so you will know when power is on to the siding?

Leave it to you, Mitch. Such a contrarian
Drilling precise holes, having to clean up the pins on the end of the track, all the cutting... for me, it was much simpler to get the Fastrack version (I needed 10 of them, so the four old style ones I picked up a couple of decades ago wouldn't have done the trick). And do tell me... how did you know that you had to be careful when cutting off the front lugs so that you didn't cut into the threaded holes for the screws??? Inquiring minds (which usually excludes me) want to know
carsntrains posted:I think the purpose of them lighting up only when power is on to the siding is so you will know when power is on to the siding?

I agree with Jim. This is the one accessory on my layout that gets its power from the track for the siding. I find it helpful to see that the siding track is activated when I see the red light on top of the bumper go on.
On the other hand, if that is not your preference, having the bumper get it power from a source other than the track is perfectly fine.

Simpler, yes. Cheaper, no. In all seriousness, I live in near-total poverty much of the time nowadays (fighting with SSI for disability payments), so I have to be creative. :/

I've been using the Lionel 260 plastic bumpers. I retro fit the incandescent lamp with an LED and wire them directly to run off the track power.

Good Golly Miss Molly; 448 pages, and counting! This thread has been running just over 4 years, so that's 112 pages a year, or just over 9 pages a month. Wow, is that some kind of a record?
I am sure there is tons of great info captured in the thread, and I am equally sure that no one in their right mind would sit down to cruise thru 448 pages to see what's there. Has anyone been keeping any kind of a log of important or new revelations? Just wondering.

Rod, I don't know if anyone is keeping track. But everytime I get an alert of a new post and I think I will use in the future I put it in my O gauge layout planning folder in my mail box. then I just go to my mail box and pull it up anytime I want!

Mike, thanks, that's pretty much what I do as well. But I have not regularly followed this topic, so I have no idea what all has been covered, and life is too short to wade through it to find out. If I started today I might get thru it by next year, by which time it will be another 100+ pages long. I might not live long enough! Thus my silly question.
BTW, my math was bad above. Its actually 5 years, so 90 pages a year, or 7.5 per month; in case anyone noticed.

Haha you're right. I have enough trouble just catching up on the daily messages!

Yep, me, too. Entire sets of pages will come and go and I'm sure I'm missing a lot of the stuff.
This is my favorite thread because I can see what people are up to and it always changes. And people who see my stuff and think, "Meh, narrow gauge, don't care," it's fine because they'll be able to wait to see something they do like.
But best of all, I get to see stuff I probably wouldn't click on normally (as I'm just not a big 3-rail guy) and everything can give you a good idea!

Struggled to fit the roundhouse back in place after installing flooring inserts between the rails.

Thanks, but my point was I wouldn't normally click on the threads to get to see some of the cool stuff that gets posted into this one. There's just not enough time to look at everything in this (or any other) forum. This thread is like the magazine itself: some pretty cool updates, from varied types of subjects and you never know for sure what'll pop up next.
Usually, what pops up next here is pretty cool to see (including your great work, GD1950).
Just because I'm not into something to the degree I'd do it myself, doesn't mean I can't get something out of it. Countless times, I've seen some great 3-rail (and other) modeling here and think, "WOW, that looks amazing!"
I didn't get to work much on the bridge this evening. Just got in from the shop. Intended on using my uncles welder because its a small one with smaller wire than my big Lincoln MIG. But his argon bottle is at another shop. So went to our new shop that isn't set up yet. Has a 220 plug! But wouldn't you know it was the wrong one. SOOO I go to Home Depot and got a new plug and box. Couldn't get my electrician brother to come help. So I took the old plug out and rewired it myself ( I hate doing that) .. Finally got the I beams welded up. Now to clean them up and weld in supports ...
Haphazard Jim : )
Nothing work wise today. Was up in Parma Ohio helping set up for the show tomorrow. I have a table so it was two fold for me. After helping I had time to set up my table. Now I don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to do it tomorrow morning before the doors open. On a brighter note when I got home Mr Brown had left my order of gar graves track so Sunday I can get back to work again. If any of you guys are at the show Saturday stop and say hi to me I'll put Paul 2 on my badge............Paul
