Not sure if this counts, but I put down some 096 tubular track on the floor and running my larger engines and passenger cars.   Normally they don't get much time on the "real" layout.

My dad and I did that for years before we had our big layout. We sometimes on Sundays would watch the race or football and get out the old O-27 track and run that all over the living room just for something different.

My Great Northern Empire Builder paint project has reached the point where applying the first coat of GN EB Scalecoat II orange is imminent.

But before I do, I want to give Forum member @CBQer props for replying to my emails and sharing his experience/knowledge regarding use of SC II paint for this project.  He's been very helpful.

Best of all, he prompted me to paint a practice car before starting on the prepped cars which I will start later today.

Photos to follow.

I originally used the Plasticville Union Station, but decided to do something more akin to Denver Union Station on which the Miller Engineering signs sit. So I kitbashed several of their kits and added a lot of styrene. My space obviously did not allow for a scale building, but one still "inspired" by the Denver station.

Great job on the bash, really came together well!

Added and wired a bushel of billboards to the outdoor layout: Maxwell House; Domino; Nabisco; Mr. Peanut; and Schaefer’s. Also re-seated a bunch of figures, since my last attempt looked like a horror movie.

I’ve another couple “Open” signs prepped for wiring but I think they’ll remain idle for awhile. I’m running out of wiring steam.

Installed a 30" actuator to lift my duck under. No more ducking as I am getting older and don't bend as I used to. Still need to do some trimming but will do that when we can start going out again.

30 inch Actuator

Eric, Looks like it works great, so much so that I shared your video with a friend (79 years young) who has a duck under on his T-rail layout.

Can you share construction info or tips for him?

Much thanks

Used drawer slides. Had to reinforce sides with steel L pieces and welded a right angle piece to keep it level. Tried using dual actuators but couldn't get any that were speed matched. Also put in a pully system on the opposite side to reduce the weight of the duck under. If he needs more info and pics have him email me (in my profile).  I can take more pics.

My father has taken out the short passing siding near the roundhouse and lowered the layout for the grain elevator. We've talk about doing this for probably 10 years. I wish I had been able to help him but he grab the bull by the horns and got in there! Can't wait to do the scenery and get the scene finished.

We also had a good running session and worked on some repairs. Replacing coupler springs is a special art...Hope everyone had a great day!

The Lionel 21" 611 Steam Excursion add-on Northern Pacific Dome Car is ready for people on the lower level.  The Dome passengers have been installed.  I hope to finish the car this weekend.

Update:  I did a rough placement of people in the lower level of the Dome Coach.  As you can see, many people need hair painted and inspection touch-up of paint.  Then I need to grind and glue them into position.  The car is packed with people because of the dark green paint that subdues the appearance of the car.  The variety of colors and people in the car is to compensate for the dull/muted appearance.  The silver Florida East Coast Coach won't need as many people.

I am run down by whatever I have and will work on it between naps.  The FEC Coach is the next car.

Notice: A German Ebay Seller who sold me Preiser 65602 Unpainted Seated People has just informed me that he cannot ship to the United States, he can't even make the Ebay label through Ebay, because of shipping interruptions in Germany that have existed the past three weeks, and into the foreseeable future.  This may be why another order from another German seller for four Preiser 65602 disappeared in the DHL shipping system around March 16, 2020.  A third seller from England wants more money to ship the two Preiser 65602 after I paid the highest price I ever paid for Preiser 65602 People on Ebay.  It's time to hold off buying.

Sincerely, John Rowlen
