What's the difference?? Lionel Legacy S2 Switcher & NW2 Switcher

I think you already answered your own question....... "there are still some couple year old S2's out there"

 well at least the $100 difference  

But the new ones with "new tooling" are less!!

S2 are Alco - NW2's are EMD. Not much difference, both are yard goats, great pullers (assumption on the NW2). The S2 command more of a premium I suspect as they are more popular and hard to find as they sell out pretty quick. I would imagine the NW will follow the same.

I love my S2....

The NW2 has a new drivetrain. The motor has been moved from vertical to horizontal and drives both trucks.

  Thanks! Still tryng to figure out how the NW2 has new tooling, new drivetrain, same features as the S2 and it's MSRP is less. Sadly, I think I prefer the S2!

There are still a few Legacy S-2s out there sellng for less than the NW2 if you are not particular about roadnames.

Moved from pancake speaker to 40mm baby fatboy with speaker enclosure. Added track IR. Improved drivetrain. Smoke unit improvements.

The difference in price is due to the drastically modified design. With the improvements also came easier assembly, which helped lower the cost.

I would buy the new NW2, we saw the new version at April York and it’s amazingly different. I had the older version, it’s ok, the new ones a Wow.  Trust me, you’ll be glad you did....Warranty....I am waiting on the CSXT.....Merry Christmas....
