Never knew of any excursions but the Virginia Transportation Museum is in Roanoke right next to the NS rail yard. Lots of NS movement in the area. I’ve been going to Roanoke area for years and try to get there every chance I have.
I am not sure of any excursions, but in addition to what has already been listed, the C&O Historical Society is only 35-45 minutes away (it takes longer if you take the more scenic route through WV). There is also Railyard Hobby Shop in Roanoke.
