I have seen MTH offer a flat car transporting another car. These usually seem to be subway cars.

My question: Does the car carried on the flat work (couplers etc)? From the photos they seem to be the same car that is offered in a set.

And to add a further note...These Flatcars with Subways are in the Premier line up and they come with two car numbers and different car numbers on the Subway car loads. So for many 4-car and 2-car Subway sets, there are actually 8 total cars produced when you add in these 2 Premier flatcars.

This info was sometimes lost on the marketplace and thus these cars are actual add-on cars to several RailKing Subway sets. With the lack of total understanding, these Premier cars can be tougher to find than the 4-car and/or 2-car add-on sets of the RailKing subways.

In the case of the R-36 World's Fair set, which is perhaps the most desired and toughest to locate set now, the Premier flatcars with R-36 World's Fair Subway car loads are especially hard to find now. On the secondary market, these cars can go upwards of $150-200. each.
I picked up two subways on flats and what a nice surprise to find that they both had different numbers.

On the cars I bought the couplers are dummies on the subway car (R-17) but there are working couplers on the flat. The subway car still couples, it just doesn't have the thumbtack or mechanism to open. No accidental uncoupling here.

Just thought you should know if you are considering this and that is important to you.

Nice to get two cars in one package though, and my 4 year old son loves them. The conversation went like this:

"Daddy, this is my favorite train. Well those are my favorites too (pointing to some recent RMT subway work cars), but this one is my real favorite."

"What do you like about it?"

"It is nice and heavy."

So I guess I am moving onto premier cars!
