As I page through the catalogs year after year I wonder to myself, why the apathy for my beloved Northern Pacific Railway?
For a class one railway, the first of the big three in the Northwest, a railroad pounded into law by the venerable Mr. Lincoln, and the final spike pounded into the rail by Ulysses S. Grant himself... How is it that such an important piece of our railroading history has been so very under represented by the model train makers?
Sunset/3rd. Rail has done best by NP so far, in my opinion, in the steam department. Lionel, MTH, Atlas and Weaver have all been rather bereft for their part. A couple pieces of motive power here and there. Occasional single cars sprinkled into the ten thousand Pennsy and B&O offerings.
Oh why do they despise thee, dear Northern Pacific?
I finally gave up on building a period proper scale-sized NP fleet.
Maybe I am the only one that carries the torch?
