I have a Lionel Northern Pacific Northern 4-8-4 that won't smoke. The smoke unit gets hot enough to the touch where you need to let go. The piston moves up and down, it has plenty of smoke oil but no smoke. Has anyone had a similar experience?
If this is the old style (non fan type) then the wick that encases the resistor may be completely charred. If it is then remove it and do not replace. Pack the housing with new wick material so that the resister sits on top of the material. This works for me.
