763 Hudson 2226WX Grey Coal Tender | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I have been researching the postwar Lionel 763 Hudson and the grey coal pile 2226WX tender. I have been looking at Stouts auction for examples. I guess I'm blind because I cannot see a color difference in the grey coal pile tender and the black coal pile tender. They all look Black to me and yet the Grey 763s and tenders sell for thousands more.

When you see them side by side (not in a photo), you'll see the difference. That's the one prewar item I'd love to own someday, but it's hard to justify what sellers want for it.
