A bit of theme for me recently with boxcars. Here is another headend express boxcar. Not prototypical as the ATSF Fe-24 class express boxcars were 50' double door boxcars, but still the paint is pretty decent on this Weaver model. Some metal trucks and a several ounces of weight and it could actually be at the head of one of my ATSF passenger trains without derailing.
OK, it’s perhaps not a boxcar because it has no top….but it’s a way for the CP to meet the huge post-pandemic surge in Christmas tree demand. Several operators in our waybill-driven operating group have done variations on the tree cars, inspired by one. Thanks Frank!!
This car awaits off-loading at the Vernon CT freight house and team track. They’re three days late, but still in time, so tres bien! Merry Christmas to All🎄

Good Afternoon Everyone,
Love to see the wide variety and craftsmanship on this thread.
Just finished this one-it's a tribute to my old command that I served in. It was originally an MTH 2006 fall York catalog cover boxcar. I sanded off all the MTH advertising with 2000 grit paper and resprayed the sides with Tamiya flat white. The emblems/logos are actually stickers I purchased from Military Graphics in Arizona. They are very thin and apply nicely. Happy with how it turned out and the car will be part of my patriotic train.

Quite a few years ago I spied this boxcar at a train show in someone's junk box. Most of the trim pieces were gone and someone had tried to weather it with some rust colored paint. I think I paid $.50 for it.The B&M lettering was intact and unpainted, so I masked it off and used Floquil B&M blue to paint it. The paint doesn't quite match but with new trucks and some of the trim items replaced, it has become a decent piece on my layout, almost prototypical.

@Dave_C posted:The Rutland had 200 automobile boxcars. In the years I model they were used on a variety of jobs as I can’t picture them being used in auto transport. They were only 40 ft. cars. The Rutland never saw a new steel car till 1954. They were built from the same order that produced their standard 8000 series boxcar in 1924. As far as I can tell looking at pictures. The only difference was another slightly cut down door was door added. About 3/4 length. A prototype can be seen at Strasburg. So I had some good photos to look at. Atlas produced a fairly good replica of the standard car years ago. I had a shell in my junk box that served as a donor for parts and experimenting. I picked up a DM&IR that had the more correct ends. I blasted the lettering off with an air eraser, made a trip to the local hobby shop for some styrene strips, ordered some door guides from Atlas, ordered some K4 Decals and made a few cutting guide jigs. I basically just cut the door opening and framed it out.
A quick mock-up was made testing out the styrene. The tedious part was cutting the door down and removing the latching hardware. I also removed the 2 doorstops and added the extras using Precision Scale parts. I used Tamiya Dull Red Laquer for paint.the first shot is the stock Atlas car and the modified car together. The lettering font of the K4 decals is slightly larger. Protocraft also makes a decal set that matches up with the Atlas. Funny thing is. MTH did a recent run that also has the larger font. I preferred the smaller lettering. But in order to make life easy. The K4 set just require cutting out a 6 and flipping it to make a 9. The Protocraft set would have required moving multiple numbers around. Not so easy when doing the car ends. Kadee’s went on and a light coat of weathering. It was a fun project and I’ll pickup another car to do at some point.
Nice job !

Thanks for posting Larry. My Daughter in law came across the store in November when she was in the Mall. I can’t come up with the beautiful picture of the mall presence that she took. Here is a link from Lionel.

Here's my boxcars for tomorrow's fine Sunday! Happy Holidays to all!!
Crates of gifts have arrived on this boxcar and now the car is empty as this pick up takes the last truck load to the distribution center.
Christmas trees arrive by boxcar. These trees will be hauled to the Boys & Girls club tree lot.
Later more Christmas trees arrive in an REA boxcar just after a flurry of snow has fallen. Mack stands in the doorway and yells " All done in here! No more trees!"

Nice looking car Bill! That fleet is getting huge enjoy your Christmas with your family! Mark
Just got another inexpensive Weaver boxcar for my Friendship Train. There is a picture of several of these NYC boxcars with the star and the Cleveland banner as part of the train. Need to find a couple more of these cars. The picture of the boxcars is a little blurred, but I think the fonts are close to the actual banner. Just need to tweak it a bit more and add it to the car.

I was able to finish these 3 this week while cold weather kept me inside. The OB are All Nation cars with some added detail and the B&O is a brass car ( I do not not know who made it). Weathering this week!
