This was my first craftsman kit build. Figured I better start small. This is the Ragg's to Riches small boiler house. I made some mistakes, I mean learning experiences, but it was a fun build. Probably took less than 10 hours start to finish. I have some larger, more complex kits waiting in the wings.

Nice Build. I like the lifted shingle effect along with the weathering and added details. Once you get over the shock of opening the box if your new to these. I find them really relaxing to do and one of the enjoyable things you can do in the hobby.
Looks like a good job on the model. Like you, I began with simple craftsman kits and then progressed to more complex ones. Eventually, you will try scratch building. It's a very rewarding part if the hobby.

Yeah I agree, opening the box of a big kit is intimidating, but once you get into it your mind is clear of everything else.
Awesome, I like it! One of my fav parts of the hobby is building craftsman kits. It’s been a while, don’t have a layout now and switched to standard gauge. I still have my sawmill & blacksmith shop in a closet. And like was mentioned getting into scratch building is a lot of fun also. Maybe I will have to scratch build some standard gauge buildings when I get my layout built. Love your layout, keep going & have fun!
Very nice. Does it come looking like that or is it “clean” out-of-box and you add whatever weathering you want?
Mike,
It comes as unpainted wood.
Craftsman kits come as a pile of unfinished sticks that need to be cut to size assembled according to the instructions and finished by the modeler with detail pieces etc. Very fun to build and like Joe said you get better with each model.
Great job @NJCJOE ! And thanks for celebrating with us on the Forum. It’s fun to share our little victories with others who get it.
This model is the first craftsman kit that I built (around 1999) and the first structure on my 12’-by-8’ layout. I enjoyed building it so much that I’ve been building them ever since – even though there’s no room for them on the layout. It’s been knocked off the layout and repaired many times…
