Well I posted this before, showing my 785 trailing a pair of Lionel Madison cars and said I may add a K-Line 15" Observation to add a little variety.

I thought I had one on my ebay watchlist but I did not.  Searching for a K-line 15" heavyweight observation on eBay led me to Scott over at Trainz.com.  The Seneca Valley observation was a bit more than I wanted to spend and $20 more than the Lionel Babbling Brook he had, leaving me in a quandary.  Well I needed a baggage care and the K-Line was less than $30, in the cart, so i might as well go with the Seneca Valley, in the cart, and one more car to round out a 5 car train.  What should it be, a Madison, a 15" heavyweight,  well why not just go with the  15" Wappingers Falls Pullman?  So here they are.

Kudos to Scott and his staff.  I completed my order Thursday night and my package arrive around 1:30 pm today.  there were no original boxes, but each car was wrapped in about 8 ft of bubble wrap securely taped so the cars could not escape.  Top, bottom and sides also had bunch up brown paper further filling the space inside the box.

And here they are with the two Lionel Madison cars. Slightly more than six feet of train for the 785 to haul.  The size disparity is a little greater than I expected and the color difference is a little stark, but I think the combo will work, especiall with theprices I paid for the Lionel cars.

At first my plan was to run the two Lionel between the baggage and the other K-Line cars but I remember having a derailing problem running my K-Line Denali aluminum Observation with my MTH RK streamline cars around the 42" curves so I alternated the Lionels with the K-lines because the Lionel trucks have greater swing.

There is an accessory for that.  The courses here won't let you use your own golf cart on the course, so I could just fold down the back seat and lay the bag there until I got to the clubhouse.

I've been searching for a few months for the Lionel UP Challenger caboose to match my Lionmaster UP Challenger.

This is the same Challenger where I posted a rebuild of the smoke unit in another OGRR thread (it was a mess).

The caboose arrived yesterday...and it is beautiful! I did not realize it had so much detail! Its gorgeous!

Wow THAT one made me really sit up and look,  While I use my Challenger for passenger service, I may have to get me one of those

I bought this Williams Freight set from Trainz because I couldn't pass up the price. Everything was in great, except for one of the linkages was installed upside down. Fixed that and of course the suethe smoke unit did nothing but spit fluid. Found a new MTH fan smoke unit and installed that. Much, much better.

So, it'll sound unorthodox,but I was able to install the smoke unit to the shell with industrial  3m double sided tape on the back of the unit (keeping fan port open) and sides to the shell. Fits and stays perfect. Then i used the ol seuthe stack like you suggested to take up what little gap there was.  Worked perfectly.

FedEx dropped this beauty off yesterday. I've been looking for quite a while for one reasonably priced and finally found one.

It’s been a fun couple of days.  Two days ago received the new Lionel C&O Greenbrier.  Picked up the black 613 with smoke deflectors.  The nice thing about the deflectors are they’re really easy to remove and the tiny holes remaining are hard to see unless you’re looking for them.

Yesterday I received an online auction win that was a pleasant surprise when received. The pictures were poor, so I had to limit my bid in case the condition turned out to be poor. I received this K-Line 21” B&O aluminum passenger set. I was watching them on the day the new catalog dropped. Maybe that distracted bidders, but was happy with getting them for less than $100 each, including total cost of commissions and shipping. Pleasantly surprised when I opened them and they looked like they haven’t been run much if at all. They don’t even look like they’ve been out of the boxes. Tissue wrap looked untouched. Condition turned out to be excellent.  

These are my first experience with K-Line 21” cars and now understand why they’re liked so much.

Ebay alert led to this impulse purchase: New (from 2002) Lionel NP F3A dummy. Seller said it's never been out of the Styrofoam.

MTH p2 engine from 2004, well maintained with 4000 miles on it. Sounds are the Lincoln Funeral Train which is pretty cool. Engine is marked on underside as a 1 of 2 proto types.

Found a 6556 that was in my budget.  Great condition, once the thick layer of dust was gone. Will go well with my other Katy and Texas Special cars.

When I opened it up for cleaning I found this folded up inside.

Answer to build date, it was 1958.  Only year it was made.

Makes it extra special. I can't make out the build date on the car but I'd guess that piece of paper has been there since the 50's.

There's a "Blt  by Lionel" heat stamp on the lower left corner of the cattle car. I think it reads 1-58?. Can't see it quite clear enough.

Picked up the new Lionel Maine Central "Northeast" caboose at Ro's this afternoon and will post pics next week.

I found myself at Great Lakes Hobby and Trains, North of Detroit this week and picked up a few dusty gems. I guess there is not a lot of love for the Western Maryland in this pleasant Peninsula. Well all the better for me! I  am always impressed with MTH, these LCL bottles just look amazing! I think this car will look right at home with the Lionel Hagerstown Hotshot Western Maryland, can’t wait for that to come in!

Can some one tell me what time period these are from, and what they were used for, what is the modern day equivalent  of this equipment?

I also got this very nice Atlas box car, I nearly booked the pipes on the bottom, when I removed it from the box, but man oh man, it looks great, I would like to do something with the floor on the inside the back jsut looks a little too toy to me. Any recommendations are welcome!

Purchased on ebay: Lionel p/n 2532-16, repro vista dome for Lionel 15" aluminum cars; bought 2   @$7.50 ea. plus modest shipping charge.

One will replace the broken one provided with the UP offset dome car purchased at a steep discount last year.

The parts seller was Trainz and they also offer a clear, unpainted version, and a black version on their website. The dome car will be repainted so the silver dome isn't an issue.

Glad to report the test fit was fine -- no issues.

Looks beautiful… runs well (only had a chance to make a few circuits of the layout). While, for some reason, I like the “banshee” whistle, I tried all of the choices and found a slightly more mellow version that I love. Have to set up a consist to run behind it (after I give the tracks a good cleaning).

The caboose is lighted and nicely detailed, including the undercarriage, with a figure in the cab.
