MTH did an awesome job with this set and I thank them for bringing us an O version of the real train.

A few pics below. The passenger car is gorgeous in deep blue with pin stripes and it has figures inside.

Would have been cool to have it all in a special set box, but not really necessary. Everything is packaged separately and placed in one large standard shipping carton.

No pics yet, layout has some "prog-mess" going. I picked up an old Marx E-7 dummy B unit only because I liked the price. I had the El Capitan cars already (behind a semi-scale "Santa Fe Hudson) . I figured the rest of the loco would surface eventually, no hurry.

But a beater A-unit shell was thrown in too, and I've managed to round up enough junk, that today, its actually pulling the rest of the train. Though far from perfect, and is no Magnetraction Lionel F, its still fun and stopped the clock at about 35 years for failing to run a War Bonnet at this house.

Only about $120 total for the whole train (more cars than it can even pull) spread over a year or so? That is a good enough price to smile about to me

IMG_1268bI'm with you, Matt, on having assumed a chuff. It did not occur to me that a model of that PA turbine would just, sortof, Zzzzwwwoooosssshhh by, with the smoke kindof oozing from the smoke stack of this 3rdRail scale model I treated myself to, a couple years ago. They do have a way of moving majestically, though, don't they. I'll bet that in real-life, though, they must have shaken the ground and nearly blown onlookers over when they passed by closely.

Here's mine being ponderous-looking, smoking, and being good looking, too, wwand edIMHO.

It looks as if the second run of the El Capitan from 3rd rail is not coming until 2017 .. if at all.

With that in mind I bought Lionel's El Capitan set from the 2004 catalog I think.... six brand new beautiful 18" aluminum cars with full interiors  - nice lighting with an on/off switch on each car and full underbody detail. This set is just enough to scratch the Santa Fe itch for a good while...

Got a great deal from a fellow forum member too!!

I bought a Legacy Western Maryland F7 AA set from Forum member Alex Malliae recently!  It is a real beauty, and runs and sounds great!  It is my first Legacy.  As a matter of fact, I am running it with my TMCC unit I bought from Gunrunnerjohn recently.  It took me a while, but I figured it out.  Here is a video of the two great purchases running hand in hand.

Many Thanks to Alex and John!!!

Hmm, i have El Cap cars on order and I didnt hear that. Last communication I had with GGD was to confirm my reservation

I got this from Shanni (sp?) at the GGD office when I called to add another payment on account. She wouldn't take any more money towards the El Cap until they were sure the second run was going to be made. Last heard Scott was in negotiations with a new factory but nothing was for sure.  I also had a "confirmed" reservation for the 8 car set plus the RPO and a couple of additional cars.... for what it's worth.

When I got active in this hobby the 2006 Weaver catalog had come and gone. I messed around and by the time I decided that I wanted a brass Weaver Steel Water Tank, the market had dried up. After several attempts to find one at York, I finally gave up. I am really glad I did.

I had been looking for one on OGR. In one of my searches I ran across a 2012 post from Alan Graziano where he mentioned that he built steel water tanks. On a hunch, I sent Alan an email. This gentleman is an artist! This is far nicer than anything else I've seen.

My yard area is still under construction. The original plan was to tuck the Steel Water Tank into a corner of yard. I have reworked track to place this front and center at the yard entrance.

Thank you again Alan for your beautiful work.

I just bought a grain elevator kit, made by the outfit in St. Louis, whose name I can't think of, do not yet have it in hand...this is now way too many elevators, including the kitbashes and scratchbuilds, and one unfinished, that cover my shelves.   Just two more known kits out there....both expensive....Altoona and B.T.S.  I will wait until they show up in estate sales or somewhere.   Planned is a peninsula on the layout that is a prairie branch that mostly serves elevators, a lot of them, or as many as I can cram onto the space....mostly all small ones to look like a stretch of track in Alberta in times past.

Waiting on my GM Train of Tomorrow from Sunset (might even have been their last one), but I did receive my performance alternator & retro headlights for my Mustang, to be installed Tuesday.

Where's the rest of the car?

Hopefully you'll see her after the work's done tomorrow.   Still will need to get hood re-painted, though.

Yes, the standby set came form the first run. Im positive they will get made prolly at the same time as the Empire Builder

Man I hope you are right Matt! No matter how you look at it though I doubt we will see anything until 2017 at best...

waiting that long tends to dull the itch .....especially with some of the really nice 18" aluminum cars coming up for sale recently.

GM Train of Tomorrow from Sunset,  That's cool. They had one left the last time I looked. Been on the fence with that one. Now its to late.     Now for the really cool stuff. How about pics with the retro lights installed.

Some pretty cool stuff posted I had a pretty good month as for purchases. My wallet hurts but worth it. Picked up stuff I had been wanting for a while.  Ok picked up a Weaver NP RS 11 to go with my Lionel Legacy NP GP9s( I don't remember if I had posted these) all three had been converted to Kadees. Anyway I had made a video all three are in it.  OK cool for me.

We were at Trader Joes the other day and picked this up.  It's always been my theory that anything is better with bacon.  I'm thinking that having a Bacon Jam sundae while running trains this summer.  Oh yeah, the ice cream in the sundae, Chocolate Bacon from Memories ice cream in Kingston NH!
