I tried! Won a Marx loco at auction, needed to fill out a set. And there were only two bidders and it sold to me just above opening bid, no reserve. Seller "cancelled" the sale. I think he had $ signs in his eyea, the bid did not reach Fantasyland, and he decided to welch. Second time l have had that happen. Ever had that experience? This was first time, tho, l had an auction "canceled", and did not know that was allowed on the site.

This came today from Wiseman Model Service. A small boiler to power a plant on my layout. Great little model and Wiseman is great to deal with......2 days from paid to in my hands!!! I'll show where it's going soon.

well there is plenty of Marx out there....I never had that happen. think I might contact ebay about that.

I do like most of this locomotive, but I was confused by the initial postings of it's appearance. I do not like the "post war" look of the horns. I was hoping they would be of the more recent MTH plastic realistic style. I am NOT going to talk about the connectors between units. Good luck kiddos, plugging them together. I worked in electronics R&D labs & several other jobs requiring tedious work that I enjoyed. This I did not. But that's it. Don't like the horns & connectors. Otherwise, a great looking & great running unit...... so far.
(As for my use of a camera that has auto focus, well, maybe it was my tripod & timer that was shaking. Fuzzy. Go figure
)

These units tempted me, and i am not a Santa Fe fan, per se. Other expenses brought me back to my senses. I have an MTH PS1 F3 set that the connectors are killers. I also have worked with a variety of tortuous connectors in my career, and those are bad. I'll take your word for it on the new ones. I have to make a soft place trackside to lay all three units on their sides, connect and couple, then tip them up onto the track.

I'm drooling over some of the wonderful items shown here. Space is always limited in my house and as it is I'm waiting for two Lionel cars on order for 2017 with Charles Ro. So, I've resisted many a temptation. However, a trip to the new used book store in my town yielded these two books. It's a heck of a lot easier to find space for reading stock than it is rolling stock! The photos in the first book are excellent.

Lucius Beebe....Charles Clegg ...made it their mission to be in the right place at the right time, and their work is timeless. My favorite work of theirs is "Mixed Train Daily". As a kid l should have paid a lot more attention to a couple of roads they wrote about.

Coincidentally, I'd just done a forum search on Beebe and turned up an old post that I think was actually one of yours that mentioned that very book. It caught my attention and I'll be on the look out now. The Amazon blurb says the authors covered 300 RRs.

The Dremel looks great and it should come in handy for many projects. Lowes ran some nice deals on Dremel sets before Christmas but I missed them.

years ago I picked up a 1630 Pullman at a local show cheap with surface rust to go with the three car set Mom and Dad had gotten me the year before. Picked up a 2431 Observation off the bay with similar surface rust. had an idea for a set of cars to go along with my rebuilt 221. Got a paint scheme in mind....I think will look pretty good. we'll see, need to find at least one more 16/2430 Pullman.

I did not buy this but received as a Christmas gift from my daughter, A LED headlight from LL Bean. When I got it I did not think much of it, but today I was replacing the water pump on my truck and decided to use it. Wow it is fantastic! This really is a great tool to have for my baby boomer eyes and I'm sure I will be using it under my layout and even working on locomotives.

So many neat things folks have gotten since I last posted. Today I picked up 2 scale Railking PS2 Southern RR RS1's, one powered, one non powered from my friend Chuck Fester. I took them for a spin on his layout before returning home. I used to live about 5 miles from the Southern RR Alexandria-Charlottesville route back before the merger. Now I need an era appropriate Southern caboose!
When I returned home this special run flatcar from the Western Maryland Railway Historical Society was waiting in my mailbox. I had ordered it way back when they first advertised.

As a GG1 lover, I had to go for one of the Vision versions (went for the classic tuscan 5-stripe). I have a PW 2360, the MPC 8753, and two of the scale JLC's. While I don't have a catenary, running under air doesn't bother me, so I find the sparking pantographs to be pretty cool, especially with the accompanying sounds. And the horn... WOW. Mine does have the light seam lines, but they are in the black area on the roof, so they are not terribly noticeable. Overall, I am very happy with my engine.
And I had to add the caboose!!!

In today's mail I got my newest MTH structure. I think this is maybe MTH's best structure. It will get new signage to make it SHARP'S STORE to replicate a local store my family owned and is still around today. It doesn't look anything like Sharp's but is very typical for a West Virginia general store.

From MTH's best structure to Lionel's worse. I bought this for an idea I had......but not as a hanger. Found a kit missing one small part, that I didn't need, for REAL cheap. After I got it I was happy I didn't pay more. The fit is just OK but the big issue is the plastic.....from rubbery to the most brittle I have seen in all my years in the industry. The clear parts are poorly done and full of bubbles. We get better plastic in our test shots from China!! Another problem was warpage of some of the walls. I'll make it work.....but I bet 99% of the public that has bought this kit did not get it together right!! I'll post what it will become later in a different post. thx

Too much to list.... but I am loving my Lionel MPC GG1 which pulls some tasty PRR passenger cars from MTH, a set of K-Line PRR streamlined cars to be pulled by my MPC little Joe; numerous freight cars and a lot of spare pArts.
Once I get a Canadian Pacific set of passenger cars it's time for accessories and expansion.

A bit off topic because it's not a recent purchase but I was building one of the K-line Diners and was trying to detail it so it was a little nicer when along came the opportunity to buy one of these Joe's Diner telephones. So I never finished the K-line diner. I was going to buy a Lionel Irene's Diner so that both the wife and I could have our own diners.

This came recently......a Williams GP I bought to repaint. But after I got it out of the box I kinda liked the 'Halloween' paint scheme!! My 1973 Javelin is Orange so I like orange things. I don't need another RR on the layout so maybe this is a second hand unit or just lost. For now I leave it alone and I'll find another repaint victim!!!

Turns out the Standard gauge curve pieces I bought yesterday are 072 !! Laid them out and measured. the box was marked 072. No problem because they will work pretty good. the Standard gauge engines will look good going around those curve. Have to be more careful thoug next ime.
This was just dropped off at my door. WOW!! I have a number of these Williams scale brass locos and I am never disappointed. And this one is SUPER mint! It looks like it was never taken out of the box. No marks on the wheels....every bit of paper work even a Williams ad for direct purchase brass car sets. (one of the first O scale items I bought) Nut driver, extra parts and tires. This version comes in the lift lid box that is so much nicer than the older chip board style.
I do not even have a L&N freight car....much less a loco....but this was so cheap and sat on ebay for weeks calling me.....so I finally did it. LOVE these Williams brass locos......and love the price too. Thx

That is MTH uncataloged 30-76666 that was made for the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Foundation. I can't get their gift shop tab to work on http://www.movingfullsteamahead.com/ right now.
