Just got one of these. I'm a sucker for WW2 jackets and I wanted a daily wearer as my original ones are too valuable to wear daily...
p51- I agree on the WW II jackets. Many years ago the Polo shop in Pgh. had repro tanker jackets that were really well made. Bought one and wore it to re-enactments- and every where else. Guys thought it was original. I still have it although the cuffs and sleeves are showing wear. They were highly prized by the infantry. I have an original WW II field jacket plus a Nam era one. I really liked mine when I was in Germany. I had an XX large cut down to fit me so it was extra long to cover my hips. I should have brought it home.
Bought an old gray marx 635 electric with spark mechanism, has the 10 spoke wheels and the spark mechanism is complete. Its from the 1930s, motor is dirty and i'm cleaning it carefully, the spark mechanism wheel and flint lookS pretty good with 90% of flint left. Made to spark somewhat through the smokestack.
From what i have read its Marx first double reduction gear and was known to overwork the motor as there is a large gear that rides off the reduction gear and it connects to smaller gear that turns the grinding wheel that the flint rides on Its mentioned they are frequently missing from engine.
There is a lever outside near smokestack that de activates the smaller gear so the grinding wheel does not spin against the flint. The large gear is designed though to always be engaged with the reduction gears but it bolts on to the side frame and easily removed to store away.
The shell's grey paint looks nice.
Kinda neat the things that were done in the earlier model train years and i can only imagine a childs face running this setup.
The engine with its inner workings can be seen at marxtinplate trains 5th picture down.
It's a bird! It's a "J"! It's a K-2a! Got this from Pat's last month. I had had my eye on it for awhile & decided to pull the trigger during his "at cost" sale. Sorry for the low-quality cell phone video.
I also received both my LEGACY Allegheny and the first 6-pack of LionScale hoppers to go with it at the end of the year.

Thanks! So far, so goo/d (fingers crossed).
I purchased the Frankenstein feom CoasterDynamix and a Lemax carousel.
Nice buy, looks good there!
Thanks Mike. I have 2 friends from my church who are Marines. One was a Capt. (O gauge at Christmas only) & the other a CWO-4 (HO year round) and they occasionally tease me about never having slept outside while in the USAF. LOL!
Yes!
Have always admired the handsome Northern Pacific 'Lowery' scheme on their passenger diesels. My admiration started as a boy with Gilbert's beautiful Alco PA set that I only saw once in person. It was a Saturday during Christmas when I went to a downtown bank with my Dad and there was a set on the floor circling the Christmas tree. I was struck!
It was years later when I finally realized that the NP never rostered PA's but I still admired the Williams models that came out with their first issue of PAs in the mid 1990s.
Just this week I received my first set on K-Line NP as an ABA and have ordered a pair of replacement 'freight' pilots for them. Am looking to acquire a set of passenger cars for them now...

I bought a Conrail GG1 off the For Sale Forum from Elliot (aka Scrapiron Scher). Always wanted one to add to my collection, since I never had a GG1. Now I have to start building up my NYC Steam Locomotive Collection. In the future I hope to convert this to PS2/3 so I will be asking for advice on the parts, who, what and how.
C Sam, those are beautiful F Units. That is one of my favorite paint schemes. Also to CONRAIL, I like that blue Conrail GG1...Wow to you both..

Very handsome Diesels, Sam! It's good to get ones that remind you the ones you liked long ago!
I always like something with the Western Maryland name on it!!
Yesterday I picked up the MTH Strasburg 7 car set. I hope to put them on the track this weekend.
Those Western Maryland cars look great. Not sure I've seen many WM passenger sets.

C Sam... I think you and I live on the same euphoria plane... I have the full K line 21 passenger car set and I have been looking for the A-B-A's to match them

Got a few things at a Train show in Stevens Point today. C&NW GP diesel, a cool Mobil tank car, a nice Chevy truck for my sawmill (its getting a flatbed tomorrow) and a pair of 1122 switches! Lots of nostalgia the CNW used to run thru my uncles farm and I used to work at a Mobil station in the 70's so I love those winged horses.

Perhaps we could work up a trade? I'll keep the engines for 6 months while you have the cars and then we can swap for the next 6 months....
Actually I just located a set of Weaver 20" aluminum cars for them which I didn't know existed. Am now looking for one or two vista domes that they made too.
Oh, if you want some K-Line's like these there is an AA pair on the Bay right now and maybe at Trainz as well.
Haven't bought much lately but yesterday was at my favorite antique store and traded an indian bag I had made for a Lionel 2025 engine, 1947 model, that I sold to the store a year ago !! The side rods weren't right and at the time I didn't want to fool with them. Fixed the problem last night. Runs nice !! I had regretted getting rid of it so it is back. Next Sunday is the next TCA show in Pgh. and will be shopping there.
Lot of cool stuff since last time I posted. So a couple of things , ok more then a couple of things but all had been on my want list for a long time . Ok, Cool for me.
Oriental Limited CB&Q Ne-1 Waycar
Atlas CB&Q GP35s Powered and dummy
From a forum member who squared me away. Lionel GN U33C
and finally added to my herd of Zebras Atlas ATSF GP9 which now gives me all three made by Atlas.

2025!! My brother has that exact same engine. We fought over who would get it when we were young. He won

I been kinda of taking a vacation on train and layout stuff. Really blew my budget to hell but at this point have most of what I been looking for in terms of Burlington and ATSF. There are some GN engines and waycars still on my hit list. 10 meter targets are correct GN and CB&Q waycars. Other then that I need to start working of back log of repairs and Kadee Conversions. 5 meter target is my truck which may finally come out of the shop Monday after complete rebuild of drive train. Then its small stuff that needs replacing. After replenishing my bank account, its off to DOD contractor for repaint then restoration will be complete. CARC paint is not cheap but is great rust prohibiter. Then I will finally get to the New layout build. you know the deal, Priorities first.

The 2025 was the engine in my first set, 1952, I believe.. I still have the set and the original set shipping box.. It came from Montgomery Ward, I believe!! It doesn't get much track time anymore (displayed mostly), but still a great runner!! I know it is not an expensive set, but it is priceless to me!!
This is not exciting at all, but in a show today l picked up a a P-ville coaling tower. Also saw second new in cellophane box l really didn't want to bash . I definitely want to bash this so it doesn't LOOK like P-ville, which is why l wanted two "just in case". I have two different kits for much larger towers, one concrete, and l prefer wood, but l want something more likely for a short line. I am going to see what bashes of these towers have been posted on here, for ideas.
Picked up some passenger cars to go with my Williams B&O F units. Looked at a number of choices but ended with this MTH 4-car streamliner set. I think they look great.

Thats one nice 5 string!
As a matter of fact I have also. At $699(tax included) I got this sweet 2015 Les Paul Special Double Cut brand new out of the shipping box at an authorized Gibson dealer. In 2015 these were going for $999 plus tax. Compare this to a Mexican Fender Stratocaster that is now going for $799 and comes with a gig bag instead of a hardshell case.
New and Improved in 2015 Les Paul Special Double Cut
- Gibson G FORCE™ Tuning System: Faster, more accurate, additional tunings
- Zero Fret Adjustable Nut (patent applied for): Added action adjustment
- Two P–90 Soapbar Alnico Slug Pickups: Brighter Tone with a more percussive attack
- Wider neck and fingerboard: Increased playing area with same string spacing
- Comprehensive wood selection and grading: Rarest and finest materials for best instruments
- Thicker Rosewood Fingerboard: Increased mass for sustain
- Pearl Inlays: Better appearance and value
- Smoother sanded, buffed and oiled fingerboard: Improved playability and feel
- Comprehensive Setup (Lower Frets, Improved Plek, Intonation): Silky smooth action and bending, improved intonation
- Improved contact output jack: Secure contact and uninterrupted signal
- More robust cables: Stronger signal strength
- New & Improved Neck Joint: Improved stability
- Les Paul 100th birthday signature: Honoring a genius with a facsimile of his actual signature taken from a pickguard autographed by Les.
- Les Paul Hologram: Authenticity and tribute
- New & Improved Hardshell Case: Improved protection (up to 15 foot drop), sleek, ergonomic, made in USA
I was thinking about buying another MTH engine but after repeatedly having multiple issues such as fried circuit boards, twice failed slave unit circuit boards due to improperly soldered B unit tether connections (in the included and additional B unit), smoke unit issues, and badly soldered wire connections in recent purchases. Due to all these issues I've experienced and the increase in prices I have chosen to invest my money in a American made guitar which will appreciate in value and give me years of joy. I feel very good about the decision I've made as I've spent thousands of dollars on dozens of MTH train engines in the past 20 years and I've decided my roster is full.
Thanks Chas. This is my second American-made Fender Jazz 5 string I've owned. I really like the punchy mid-range of a Fender Jazz bass, both 4 and 5 string. I've played 5 string basses primarily for the past 20 years or so and I'm spoiled to the extra range and versatility the B string gives. However, the B string does makes slap bass style a bit more challenging: Not enough fingers at times to keep the B string muted when not in use!
Love the sound of a Les Paul. One of the best guitarists I've ever been in a group with played a Les Paul and did an outstanding job with it.
Hope you enjoy your new "axe" for many, many years!
Cool stuff! But that bad girl les Paul special with the zero fret adjustable nut really looks like a secure sustain but questionable tone(what ever happened to bone? Or ivory? Extinct?)....however the whole package for that money looks like a nice deal. What does she weigh? I like the gold molded case, classy ride. Looks like its super fun to play. Thanks for the pics and specs.
Transfer.
Now I want one too!
It could hang with my vintage 76 tobacco sunburst deluxe LP.
I bet it's a lot lighter in weight!
Play the special in great health.
