Several years ago I installed EOB in 3 of my TMCC engines. Over time all have failed with the same symptoms so I'll concentrate on one engine. A Lionel SD40-2 (6-28524). It originally was factory TMCC with Odyssey speed control. EOB installation went smoothly and the engine performed flawlessly for years. Now as soon as apply track power railsounds come on and ramp up thru the three cycles. With the Program/Run switch in Run I can't address the engine with the Cab 2, I have no control of engine. When placed on my conventional layout I get the same symptoms, railsounds come on and engine won't move. In the program position railsounds come on and I can't program the engine. The wheels turn freely. Checked the antenna connection and it is solid. Replaced radio receiver with an new R2LC board and a new R4LC 08 board. No change with either board. No broken wires or burnt components. All boards reseated and all connectors plugged in. The lights come on, no control of the couplers. Don't know how to proceed, grateful for any help.

When you say EOB, did you rip out all the TMCC stuff and install the EOB, or did you use the drop-in EOB that replaces the DCDR or DCDR for Odyssey?
I used the EOB drop-in.
I'd connect a DCDR and see if the EOB board croaked. You can just plug it in by removing the two plugs from the EOB board. The fact the sound is in conventional mode from your description indicates the EOB board is not relaying the serial data back to the sound board.
I tried connecting the DCDR board like you suggested but no change. Maybe it's time for a change since EOB is history. I'm going to look into replacing all EOB engines with ERR. Thanks for your help John, if you think of anything else I'll try it.

Well, if just plugging in the DCDR two plugs didn't get the motor running, it's not the EOB board that's causing no movement. The DCDR is dirt simple, it just gets the PWM pulses on the smaller 4-wire plug and drives the motors at the speeds commanded. It doesn't know or care about serial data, it should have worked. I think you need to look elsewhere, the EOB doesn't seem to be the issue.
