What's your battery level?  They won't light if the battery level is very low.

Batteries are good...top screen is bright as it always is.

Just the icon screen is out.......not just dim.......fully out.

page 50 of the manual has info on the light.

 

try that and let us know.

I think the screen backlight control is for both screens, you can't adjust one to be a different backlight value.

I did take a look, however, as John mentioned, the controls ...control both screens.

I can adjust the upper screen but I still have "no light" on the lower screen.

You sure do miss that icon screen not being lit !

 

Anyone know how they light these up?

 

Looks like a trip to Lionel.  A good time to get the charger and screen fixed along with an upgrade.

I'm assuming it's an EL backlight, but I've never actually taken it apart that far.
