I broke down and installed firefox. I hated the new forum half the screen wasted and hard to read. Yes, I saw the posts that suggested firefox but what can I say? I'm old, I'm stubborn, I'm set in my ways and I hate change! When I finally swapped browsers, WOW! what a difference. Maybe next time I will just get over being set in my ways and jump right in, Nah, I won't do that.

Seriously, I like the new forum now. With IE it was horrible. I even like all my other favorite sites better with firefox.

Thanks, Malcolm

If you look into Firefox "Add ons" and find Ad block and ad block plus as a starting point. There are quite a few good add ons dedicated to helping you "Cruise" the net without the smut and what have you.

It's gotten to the point that every time I install windows onto a new machine, I automatically eliminate IE, Bing, MSN etc. None of that.

I understand where you are coming from for being stubborn. I am the same way myself and reluctant to change. However be that as it may, if the change is good, I embrace it.

I know it is a plug in.  i was just pointing out that you can get a spell check to use with IE.  I use IE and have not had any of the problems others are complaining about, ie; drop downs, spelling etc.  you are a smart guy Rich but do we have to hear you knock IE every other post?  you get irritated when people knock Lionel and MTH with bad products.

I use a Mac and my primary browser is Safari. I also use Firefox. OGR forum looks perfect in both browsers on my Apple computer.

Many times I visit the OGR forum using the iPad. I know there is an ORG forum iPhone app that works on iPad, but I prefer the appearance of the forum using web browser apps on the iPad.

Safari is fine, but I actually prefer the Atomic Web browser. One interesting feature with Atomic is that the user can select how Atomic is identified to a web server using a variety of different web browser protocols. One can choose Safari, Firefox, and many others.

There is another iPad web browser called Photon. Though it does not apply to the OGR forum, Photon displays Flash on the iPad by decoding Flash files on its server, then streaming the decoded Flash site to the iPad. It actually works well if you MUST view Flash on the iPad, but it's not as fast as using computer or laptop.

The bottom line is that OGR forum looks great on just about every web browser except Microshaft Internet Explorer.

I use Firefox on my 27" Imac and my 10" netbook pc. No problems.

I AM NOT HAVING A "CRAP" EXPERIENCE!!!!!!

some of you are more hard headed than me.

Oops! I did not mean to start a war here. I like using the FF for the forum but I am still using IE for some other sites. I was just pointing out is was better for the forum FOR ME.

I am not promoting one system over the other. Yes, I am old and set in my ways but choosing a browser is not life & death, lighten up!!!

I agree that not all are having a "crap experience" here using IE. However, while IE has 50% of the market, fully 85% or more of my "tech support" emails have been from IE users. As a group, they have had far more problems than folks using other browsers.

I use Firefox exclusively but I keep IE9 on my laptop (Win 7) just in case.  I hadn't thought to log into the new forum on IE9 till now and it looks almost exactly the same as Firefox.  The only difference is the font in Firefox is ever so slightly, just barely larger.  Otherwise I can't tell any difference.  I bet most of the problems are with older versions of IE.

However, for daily use of the internet there is no substitite for Firefox, IMO.

If only that share info were true, Microsoft would be a happy camper. As of January 2012, Internet Explorer's share of market was 38.65% (Stat Counter). Admittedly, this is based on totals including desk top and mobile. But, even with that, it's dropped dramatically. Ten years ago their share was in the high 80s, even 90s depending on the source. Based on the way Firefox and Chrome are gaining share, who knows where it will be in another 10 short years.

Jerrman

IE sucks. The only time I ever use it is when I need to view a website that doesn't support Mozilla or Chrome, which is rare.

The built in spell-checker alone was all it took to get me to switch to Mozilla so many years ago. Not to mention the better speed, better security, better add-ons, better graphics, better support, better browser, better browser, better browser, and the better browser.

That's odd. Nothing changed at that point in time other than a couple of font and color tweaks.
