I currently have Legacy 1.51 and was contemplating upgrading to 1.52.  From what I read 1.52, isn't a substantial upgrade, and I have a problem.  I had the Legacy System Utility on my PC.  However when I upgraded it (the PC), the serial ports / or other ports that i used to connect the base to are no longer present on my new PC.  I have a Mac but I don't see this for the Mac.  So here are my questions:

Does LCS run utilizing 1.51 or is 1.52 required?

Is there anyway to upgrade without using a serial port?  I know in previous releases you could buy the black chips from Lionel.

Is there a Mac version available?

Is there a hobby shop in the Chicago area that will do the upgrades?

Anyone near me in Chicago that wants to do the upgrade for me?  I am in Winnetka, would come to you.

John, the Legacy System Utility can be used with a USB to serial adapter for newer computers without traditional serial ports.

You do need Legacy v1.52 installed in order to use Layout Control System (LCS) devices like the LCS WiFi module.

There will be a new version of the Legacy System Utility for Windows that can connect to the LCS WiFi as an alternative to using a wired serial connection. However, that won't help you, as you first need to upgrade your Legacy Base to v1.52 before you could use the LCS WiFi. Alas, you are in a chicken-or-egg dilemma.

If you have some black modules, I can put 1.52 on them for you and you can upgrade, send me an email to my profile address.

Hi Steve,

Sorry, there are no plans for Legacy Mac OSX software  from Lionel at this time. I am a full-time Mac user, I run XP under VMware in order to use the Legacy System Utility.

So I guess I am way behind in upgrading...purchased one of the first 990s (maybe 2010) and just checked I am running version 1.4 on the base and handheld.  Was out of the hobby a couple of years due to illness and just getting back up to speed.  Would like to install LCS wifi this time around so will I be able to upgrade directly to the 1.52 version or will I need upgrade the other versions first like some other software requires?  Also I checked my box and I do have  the cable still in plastic for the upgrade, however I apparently have mis-placed the black module.  Can I purchase one from a Lionel dealer or is that something I need to go back to Lionel direct for.  Thanks for any help guys...appreciate it.

Yes, which is odd because with Parallels it works great. So its something in the OS that Windows doesn't have to deal with. Usually it's the other way around

You are a champion "GunrunnerJohn"  Thanks!

Easy to upgrade to 1.52.  I actually purchased the USB to serial before for something, not sure what, but thats ok.

Installed LCS wi-fi and that looks to be pretty cool.

The one thing that somewhat surprised me is that I basically just unplugged what was in my Legacy base and replaced that with the LCS wi-fi serial port connection.  Page 9 of the owners manual seems to show a connection using the Legacy Y cable.

Did I do something wrong?   The engines on my track still recognized the Cab 2 remote.  I have not tried the iPad yet.
