Is there an issue with just leaving this base on / plugged in, I don't use rechargeable batteries and I have turned that function off on the base. Just wondering if some folks leave it on for an extended period of time or do you power it on and off with the rest of the track power / accessories?

I do charge my remote from time to time. I turn it all off when I am done, plus I don't leave the remote on the base during off time, don't want to drain the batteries dead(again). Did that with the original batteries, lesson learned.

A little trick that Mike Reagan showed me!  When not using the CAB2, turn it up side down on the BASE UNIT.  Don’t have to worry about draining your Batteries!

That way the charging connector on the CAB2 doesn’t come in contact with the charging terminals on the Base!

Simple eh,

Fred

You mean you can turn it off?

I let my unit charge the rechargeable batteries.  Occasionally after a storm I will have to unplug the base and turn it back on if there is a communications error. I have done that twice in six years.

I have purchased new rechargeable batteries at Walgreens once.

I also keep two extra 990 Remote Sets in storage for a rainy day, . . . but it's snowing now.

My base is under the center of my layout and I leave it ON all of the time. Everything else is powered off by a remote wireless switch. I use non-rechargeable batteries in the CAB-2 as they last SO much longer than the rechargeables. I had some issues when the base was being turned on at the same time as the track power when the engines would sometimes not be recognized as Legacy (or TMCC) so leaving the power on the based solved the issue.
