Yes, unfortunately the LionChief-equipped units cannot be controlled by the TMCC or Legacy remotes. It's a shame Lionel couldn't make them compatible with the major remotes, especially since most beginners may eventually acquire more locomotives and a command system (be it DCS, TMCC, or Legacy).

Actually, it's a feature, not a bug.  If you buy a Lionchief set or Lionchief Plus loco, it comes with it's own remote.  So if you buy a command equipped loco and the corresponding command system (TMCC, Legacy or DCS), you can operate that LionChief or LionChief Plus loco(s) with its own remote,  independently of your other command loco(s).  So you don't need to buy a second remote, ever,  if you and a family member or friend want to simultaneously operate trains together.  There is no disadvantage,  unless you always operate alone and insist on having only one remote .
