I’ve got an unusual problem which I hope someone can shed some light upon. I recently purchased my first Lionel Legacy locomotive (NYC E8 AA, 6-84088). I have already had a bunch of seious problems with the product, necessitating 2 exchanges with the dealer and 1 trip to Lionel for repair. I finally have it back and it’s just about perfect except for one strange behavior. I’m running the engine in TMCC (don’t have Legacy yet), and since I have a small layout, my preferred momentum setting is M, but in that setting, and that setting only, it will not decelerate smoothly from medium or high speeds down to its lowest speed. It stops abruptly at about the 3rd or 4th speed level above zero. In the other settings, L and H, I am able to easily get it down to a crawl (1.6 scale mph) without it stopping short. I can accomplish that in M only if the speed never exceeds slow. Once I pass a certain speed threshold in M, it will not get back to its slowest speed no matter how lightly I feather the throttle down. I mentioned this to Lionel when I sent it back to fix a noisy smoke fan motor. They said they were not able to recreate the problem, but I don’t know if they ran it in TMCC (I’m guessing not). If this additional info helps, they said the noise was probably due wires getting their jackets poked through by the RCMC, but they replaced the smoke fan anyway. But to be honest, it still buzzes a lot louder than the smoke unit on the non-powered unit. The buzz starts as soon as I turn smoke on, and gets much louder when I give the engine a little throttle. If any of this makes sense to anyone, let me know!
