My caboose came with one light bulb and a non connected single wire. It appears that there can be a light at each end of the caboose. Does anyone have a schematic on how to wire these lights.
There is only one light in the 517 and its on the long end of the caboose. If you attempt to install a light on the short end the roof will not install because it hits the socket assembly. The single lead is connected to the contact in the base of the socket and the other end to the roller on the truck. The lamp is grounded through the body.
I'm a little confused ( nothing unusual there). I have two 517 cabooses and I'm in the process of putting additional lights in mine. I will have a light at each end, mine have cut outs for lights already, and a light for the interior. I will be looking for the sockets at York in a few weeks. I think the MTH 517 has a light at each end so I would think it would be ok on the older Lionel.
