Lionel entered the electric toy train world in 1901 when only about 3% of America had electric. The initial gauge was 2 7/8" ..2 rail, running on DC 6 volts +-.
1903 the Lionel line is expanded adding the B&O #5 box cab and the Derrick. The trestle which had been introduced in 1902 had to be redesigned to allow the Derrick to clear ...it is very tall ...and heavy .

Original 2-7/8 items are a rare find. I never see them in public auctions but hear about sales afterwards. Maybe there is a secret handshake I need to learn to get "in the know".
