Anyone have a clue when the F19 Pacifics are due in? I couldn't find Lionel's shipping schedule...I pulled up the F19 Pacifics on their website but it was only description.

The Halloween F19 now shows a delivery date of 12/19/2024 as do all of the F19s on the Lionel Store Website.  Pretty disappointing to say the least.  We all heard the C&Os were going back but whatever the issue is it seems to be affecting all of the F19s.

Calling Pennsy experts re: The Spirit of Saint Louis passenger set observation car.  If my eyes made out the car names correctly (I'd appreciate Lionel listing the car names in the catalog text), they are:

Imperial Loch, Crystal Creek, Cascade Knoll, Lehigh Rapids, Monongahela Rapids, and (observation car) Frank Thomson.

According to a post by CarterB about halfway down this webpage: https://railroad.net/prr-obs-c...ry-quot-t48690.html, the observation cars for the Spirit of Saint Louis as delivered were named "James McCrea," Samuel Rea," and "William Wallace Atterbury."  (The source links at the end of his post no longer work.)  CarterB's post shows "Frank Thomson" as one of the two observation cars intended for the "Cincinnati Limited."  So were the cars changed between trains enough to make this feasible?  Even if so, I wonder why Lionel wouldn't choose one of the three names that were specifically made for this train.

Ramblers Don, years ago we called that smaller Hudson a baby Hudson. They look great. I consider them a traditional size and took great pulling traditional size rolling stock.

The Lionmaster Hudson is bigger than the baby/junior/O27 Hudson, even slightly bigger than my PW 2056.

Yes, the so-called baby Hudsons are smaller than the LionMaster Hudsons. As raising4daughters mentioned earlier, the LionMaster Hudsons are 22" long, a completely different mold than the baby Hudsons, which are 19" long. Lionel made the baby Hudsons going back a number of years, with and without TMCC, and more recently has continued producing them in the LionChief line. The LionMaster Hudsons are big enough that they look fine pulling many of the smaller scale-sized cars (tank cars, reefers, stock cars, flatcars, shorter hoppers, etc.).

The item in the catalog that most got my attention is the Soo Line Mikado. Sentimental value, among other things. When I was quite young, I remember my father taking me and a couple of my brothers down to a nearby little town (and Soo Line junction) to see a Soo steam engine in operation. I believe there were actually two of them there in the small yard at the time. It was right at the very end of the Soo steam period, and I think Dad wanted to see them one last time before they were gone. We followed one of them for a ways out of town when it left. As many Mikados as the Soo had, it's somewhat likely that's what it was.

Anyway, I've been looking at other Lionel Mikes that have been offered recently, thinking of finding one that had the Soo all-black motif, and then changing the lettering on the tender. But now here it is being produced! Nice that it has the correct headlight placement, which was unique (or nearly so) to the Soo.

My guess is that they all came on one pallet or one container. Rather tha Lionel wasting their labor/time sorting them out, they just sent the whole shebang back.

That doesn’t make any sense. Why would you make everybody wait for their engines? If only one engine is affected. Those pallets could be broken down and put back together with the bad one shipped back to China in less than a day.

It must be something in common to all of them for them to all be shipped back. As somebody stated earlier, I’d rather them get it corrected and we’re all happy with our locomotives.

I'm only going by what someone else said about it being a paint error on one of the versions. What makes logical sense doesn't always make financial sense, and we also don't know the terms of delivery and payment for the product that Lionel works out with the overseas manufacturer.

Too bad they didn't catch it b4 they left china. Did no one even look at any of them b4 they shipped to lionel?  That's pretty sad.

Some time back, when these type of problems Lionel was having with quality control production, they said they would now have someone "over there" to ensure such mistakes did not happen, guess that never came to pass.

100% agree, Marty. Putting them all back on saltwater for two months (one each way) makes no sense if only a portion of them are affected. I’m also struggling to see a “paint problem” that would be common to all of them.

But, as you say, I’m glad they’re getting it right before delivering them.

As much as I like the glow in the dark feature, I just don't care for the design or scheme (which ever would be the appropriate word).

I'm hopeful a more affordable offering will be along that has a design I like plus the glow in the dark feature.

Yeah....the color scheme on the Hudson is meh at best...the globs of orange spattered on the black just doesn't look that good. Im with you on the Dreyfuss inspired hudson. I was pretty excited about the Halloween PA set...but when thinking about those awfully big passenger cars...my excitement quicky weaned. I guess I could run it with some MTH ACL, NYC Madison or plated Santa Fe passenger cars and tint the bulbs purple? It would be a heck of a lot cheaper as well!

I finally took some time to look at the money pit.... errr, I mean catalog.  After reading the comments from all over the interweb and seeing the emails from a bunch of dealers, what I was reading and seeing wasn't stirring my chocolate.  Even though I am thoroughly bats**t crazy for model trains my enthusiasm was tempered a bit so I waited to look at it.  Mostly because there are a few items I still want to preorder from other importers.

Well, let me talk to ya! Rather than list the things I liked I'll share the cost estimated from possible lower street prices.
$9,510. I may have to turn to a temporary life of crime to acquire all this stuff.  It's amazing that with all the trains I have that I continue to find trains I didn't know I wanted.  Truthfully, most of the items add to the volume of things I already have and I'd still wake up happy tomorrow if I don't buy any of them.  But I am a sick, uncontrollable consumer of things that make me happy.  I don't smoke, drink, take illegal drugs or chase women.  I save a lot of money that way.  Model trains are my vice.  So what, don't judge me!  :D

Chief on my list is a pair of GG1's.  I am drawn to GG1 models like Sargent Schultz is to apple streusel! The PRR DLGE #4829 with it's funky striping is a version I do not have. I think it's unique and cool looking.  The other is the Penn Central #4906 with the red "C" in the PC logo.  It's my favorite PC logo but I wasn't sure it was ever used on A GG1.  Imagine my joy when my research discovered several pictures of 4906 with the red "C" along with a couple others.

Next is the Norfolk & Western Y6b, not sure which cab number I'd want but I've wanted a Legacy version to go along with my #611 J and my TMCC  Class "A".  We shall see.

Other prizes are 10 different Milwaukee Road rib sided box cars to go along with the few I have from Weaver.  And also single car and A & B sets of the B&O, CSX and Norfolk & Western 3 bay hoppers with the peaked ends.

Please visit my 'Go Fund Me' page for your generous contributions.  A guy's gotta run some trains!

my review of both vol1 and 2 catalogs

https://youtu.be/UPtOBXPtMM0

i did both because i didn't have a web cam when vol 1 came out so i included both catalogs in one video

i don't know if you can tell but i am very excited for vol2's halloween offerings . i just wish my layout could get done as i designed it to fit one large legacy offering on the outer loop

i just don't have space or fund for the layout or train as the whole Midnight Flyer doom liner would cost 3 to four thousand dollars plus i need to factor in costs of a base 3 , track , a bigger transformer and the benchwork for the layout etc

Today I received a copy of the catalog from Charles Ro. In recent years I have not paid a lot of attention to the hard copies I have received as I have reviewed the on line catalogs many times prior to the hard copy coming in the mail. Today, maybe because it was a rainy day I reviewed the hard copy and noticed how much detail is lost in the on line versions. The engine that overwhelmed me was the Halloween Alco PAs. What a paint job, bats, spider webs etc. If I was a fan of Halloween I would jump at these along with the passenger cars. Fortunately for my wallet I am not a big fan of “Holiday Trains” so what am I ordering? A station sounds dinner for the Senator passenger set. Got away cheap this year. Other trains that what impressed me more in the catalog vs on the web catalog were, the American RR GGI set, the N&W King Coal set and the New Haven Minuteman set. Also neat was with almost all the GGI engines you can order separate passenger car sets so if you don’t like the engine that was pictured on the Congressional set you could order the GGI that was on the Spirit of St Louis page. Great catalog.

I still always get the paper catalogs.  I have every single one since the 1970 catalog (which was actually just a foldable flyer).  I love sitting down sometimes and looking through them and finding things I never knew were made (then the hunt begins lol).  They are a great historical reference.

I use them for some of my videos.  Mine go back to the mid 80s.  I agree, it's fun sometimes to just look through them even though now most are on line either via Lionel's website or the LCCA.

Sean,

I felt the same way until we moved then catalogs were put on the do not move list and into the re-cycle bin. Besides Lionel you also had two or three MTH catalogs every year. Each catalog is fairly heavy so a box of them weighs a ton. I can imagine the cost of each catalog, shipping them to stores, mailing to individual customer etc. I can understand why MTH decided to stop issuing them when they re-organized you got to give Lionel profs for continuing putting out two catalogs a year.

The Aluminum body ACF CENTER FLOW 4650 cu. ft. 3-bay and 5250 cu. Ft. 4-BAY covered hoppers must be lost in China.

The former Weaver Models ACF CENTER FLOW 5250 CU. FT. 4-bay covered hoppers for the 1965-1972 era, made out of plastic, are all they have available.

Andrew

Atlas might have them. In the Atlas interview Eric Siegel did the Atlas guys said they have Weaver's China tooling.

The only thing in the catalog that I deemed worthy of my funds was the N&W's Y6B's. That is all I'm concerned about. These massive beasties just look far better than that there Big Boy critter. I guess that goes into what some of the stories about engineers saying steam locomotives has personalities. The Big Boy never cut it for me, but the Y6's sure as heck do. So old TMCC 2200 will get some friends to chat with(and I don't mean can chatter). Still working on revised layout plans which I really need a swift kick in the behind, especially since fall is right around the corner. I do want to at least have formalized plans and possibly at least one or two pieces of wood screwed together, lol.
