I agree with you on this.  That car in particular almost doubled in MSRP since its original 2017 release, 7 years ago. Thank goodness for the various train stores that sell these items at somewhere below MSRP. I don't need the Vision Line version, but I feel like that car in general is worth no more than $200, although I admit I want the yellow PC version. But still, that is quite a price hike!

Lookout for the former Weaver models version. Even cheaper used on the secondary market.

I'm trying to figure out what they did here... It looks like they photoshopped in their new wired tether on top of a previous photo of the MTH wireless drawbar as you can still distinctly see the old 6-pin (2x3) male connector...

I have one of the MTH 0-6-0 engines and didn't have a problem with the drawbar but I also run wider than the minimum required curve.

That is the same picture Lionel used for the first release of the 0-6-0s.  I would expect the tether to be the same as the first run.

Is this directly from Lionel or from a specific store? This reminds me when Lionel introduced Vision Line and they offered savings if you ordered all of the Vision Line items. Looks to be a great way to get your trains and save!

It's one of the well-known places, I didn't want to name drop without permission, but let's just say it was one of the first e-mail notifications I got after the catalog dropped.

I've taken the same (admittedly ridiculous) wishlist order and priced it out across three different websites, and it's interesting how different the prices are, and how they get there.

Website A: 19% off retail, plus 3% volume/"good customer" discount, no shipping discount
Website B: 16% off retail, plus 10% volume discount, free shipping for prepaid pre-orders
Website C: 17% off retail, no volume discount, no shipping discount
Website D: 22% off retail with a mix of "Early Buy Discount" and standard discount, flat rate shipping (but not free)

I tried to go through the exercise with a couple other sites I've bought from before, but it's surprising that some places don't have their inventory updated to include the new catalog, even if they have a banner advertising that pre-orders are open. Strange.

Are there any on-line stores you've used for pre-orders that you'd recommend?

It's the muffin man doing that discount.

Was the lowest initial price at 22% off of the total, but the added 10% kicker and the free shipping at Mr. Muffin knocked it down to #2. The low price shipping ($40+$10 for each additional box) is nice though. Definitely one of the cheapest out there.

Yea its free shipping if you pay now is the impression I get from his email.  "With paid pre-order". It says

The last time Lionel did the Senator passenger cars, they did not make a station sounds diner.  Happy to see them re-issuing the Senator cars.  I'll be getting the Station Sound car to go with my set from last run.  Would love a Vision GG1 but budget may say no since I already have the PRR GP9s coming this fall.

I also ordered the Senator Station Sound dinner as well for the same reason. In the Lionel catalog (on line) the Senator dinner was $100 more than the Congressional dinner……guess it was a misprint as all the pre-orders had them at the same discounted price.

I consider myself to be one of the top PRR fans but for some reason never wanted a GG1. The vision line ones are real neat with the sparks on the pantographs but not enough to get me to order one. Could be I never had overhead wires on any of my club layouts.

The PRR C Liners were tempting but not in this years budget.

I've been looking out for a legacy Y6b for a long time. The last time I saw one come up on one of the auction sites was years ago, and I have been kicking myself ever since for not jumping on it. Pleasantly surprised to see it offered, along with some more-plausible fantasy schemes (SF, UP, PRR) as well as in different designs. The price is also a pleasant surprise - this is $2000 while the Y3's back in 2020 or 2021 were advertised at $1900 in the catalog, a bump of only $100 is a relief. I may jump on a pre-order for one.

I also like the legacy mountains, in particular the blue T&P. I don't believe the color is prototypical (it has been a few years since I researched the prototype, though I seem to recall reading this somewhere) but I absolutely love the blue color and I also have the matching K-Line 6-car set. Given the recent track record with paint schemes, I will not be pre-ordering, but I will keep an eye out for when it ships and pictures/videos start to surface. If it looks good, I will see if I can snag one.

Gotta say, everything going on in the real world has me concerned about the future and a bit somber, but this catalog was an unexpected bright spot. Thanks Lionel!

God bless.

There is a new Transformers movie coming out later this year so I'll once again hope for a Transformers collab train set. It doesn't have to go all out like the Tyco Transformers set from the 80s where the caboose could turn into a fighter jet, an Autobot or Decepticon (or both) themed train with a Deluxe class figure of Either Optimus or Megatron riding on flatbeds would suffice.

Love the Tyco Transformers set.  I had one as a kid that was thrown out against my will.  Found one sealed not too long ago on Ebay.  I am keeping it sealed but something slides around inside the box.  Hope its just some track or parts.  It was a sign of the times at Tyco in 1985.  Tyco once a proud American Made producer of HO trains.

Phooey, no additional Friendship Train or American Freedom Train items.  Didn't see anything of interest my first time through the catalog.

Looking at it again I noticed the Spirit of St. Louis 2-unit diner.  Pulled out my Pennsylvania Dining Cars book by Liljestrand & Sweetland, and the cars are an accurate representation of the ACF double unit diners in the D85cR/D85dR class.  The blank center section of the dining car was where the bar was located.  The kitchen/dormitory car has the correct window arrangement.  I would have preferred the two-stripe scheme instead of Lionel's FOM scheme (especially since these cars were not delivered until 1949), but several real cars still had the FOM into the early 50s so you would see a mix.

If they had done these before, I missed it.  I will get them.  $700 will make these my most expensive cars so I hope they won't have any issues.

Nice to see aluminum passenger cars again.  Amtrak is a must have as well as the Injection Molded Amtrak Rainbow set.   Is it worth selling the 2022 Amtrak Cars where the baggage car is missing the step rails? (rhetorical question)  But that 2022 set does have the smooth sided coach.  One like it appeared on the 1990s Crescent often and it had a rough interior.  I recall cracked vinyl seats repaired with vinyl tape.  Loved it though and wish that consist were still used.

It appears to me the two-unit diner is in the same paint scheme as the other cars in the set (in other words, not the Fleet of Modernism scheme).  I think the two horizontal lines below the windows are meant to convey the seams in the sheet metal - Lionel probably wanted to make sure people realized that detail was there.

You are correct, for a couple of obvious reasons they are not in the FOM scheme (no FOM paint around windows).  Need new glasses.

You can see those seams in photos of the D85a, but not of the D85c.  Could be camera angle.  It looks like the Lionel models have only one-strip under the windows instead of two, a later paint scheme.

I will have to do a review when I get them, hopefully before I die.

The catalog was rather good in my personal opinion! Should've been a PRR GG1 in the cover art considering the amount of Pennsy items swarming the thing! I was practically over the moon at the new run of N5 Cabins and immediately pre-ordered the Central Region Futura variant for my TMCC M1a and an X31a to go along as well!

A relief to me is that there are no new BR-CB&Q items in the new catalog because my wallet needs a break.😄

This is a relief because the last catalog had the following items offered:

BR-C&S 2-8-0, recently delivered

BR-C&S-FW&D E5/E6 ABB set

BR 7 Car 21” Zephyr Set

BR-CB&Q Motorcar

BR-CB&Q 2-4-2

BR-CB&Q Gold Boxcar with FreightSounds

Five of the above items have not yet been delivered.  Looking forward to their release !!!

The new catalog does have the following item of interest to me:

plastic coal loads for 2, 3, & 4 bay hoppers and

a GN Hotbox Reefer car.

Some dealer could do a special run for a CB&Q 4-8-2 Mountain ?

I think if they took the colors and headlight configuration from the Tennessee Central one, and the placement of the bell in relation to the smoke stack/dome from the T&P one, it would make for a great CB&Q Class B-1 Mountain for sure!

@Racetrack Route Joe & @Arthur

The two hobby shops with a recent history of custom run CB&Q steam engines are

@Berwyns Toys and Trains

and

@MrMuffin'sTrains

Per the steam roster list on BRHS’s website, CB&Q 4-8-2 mountains had road numbers 7000-7020.

I will order one if it is offered.
