I recently purchased a Lionel ES44AC.  Has the Conrail paint colors. My first engine purchase as I'm starting my first layout.  Love it. Upon first start up the bells and whistles worked but no engine noises. The Legacy controller appeared to be set up right.  I'm still a rookie. I curiously took the body off the frame, checked the wiring connections and saw nothing. Put the body back on the frame then put the engine back on the track. Now the engine sound works! Does anyone have any suggestions? I saw there's 2 speakers. Is one for the engine sound and one is for everything else?

Do try Jeff's suggestion, it is probably that the background sounds (mainly the prime mover/motor) have been turned down. If you hear bell, horn and dialog, the railounds hardware, loudspeaker and physical volume control are all working correctly. No motor almost certainly means the background sounds have been turned down all the way.

Worked for me. Good Luck!

Rudy, For education purpose what has changed between RS5.0 and RS 5.5, is it primarily Legacy R4LC use on the early Legacy?  G

There are two volume levels, the legacy manual is not very clear on this.

Vol^,VOL^,VOL^,VOL^..........to raise main volume.

AUX1-VOL^, AUX1-VOL^,AUX1-VOL^....... for background sounds.

You must press AUX1 each time  before VOL^  in order to raise the background sounds.
