After a long delay, I will now start my series on Boxed Sets produced by Marx Trains. Set 10701 paid homage to prewar set 4177. Boxed sets are not especially common on the bay. Some are somewhat common, others are very hard to find. This set comes in the harder to find category.

Awesome Steve! Thanks for posting! That Loco & Tender are SHARP!! At least to me. Love the Linemar power & Light car- actually I really love all of them- each is very neat in its own way... Regarding that Linemar Power & Light car, do you happen to know if there were 2 or more versions? Obviously you have the set version, I happen to have one that I purchased from the Flynn's that came with its own box.  Come to think of it- wasn't there a Y2K set with those cars?

SOrry if that got off topic, your set just got me thinking. Can't wait to see more!

Marx Trains made the set in it's usual variations. 8 wheel with tab couplers or twist auto couplers, then it was available in 4 wheel versions. There were a few odd one or two off variations, different color frames, doors etc.
