The mention of the lead mining area of Missouri might be of interest here. My Dad's older brother died of a rail road incident at Herculaneum, MO., in Nov. 1915. His foot was caught in a frog and the train passed over him. Here is a history of that area which includes mention of the Mississippi River & Bonne Terre Railway, which eventually became part of MoPac.

Here is an associated link to another railroad which contains vintage pictures including a two axel caboose.

Fantasy MP scheme (silver trucks) based on the handsome Gilbert American Flyer MP Alco PA's with Williams aluminum cars repainted to match the F3s. They were particularly nice with the thin red stripes separating the yellow and dark blue.

I miss my layout!

Fantasy or not, those are just beautiful!!

Well my offerings for MoPac are very humble indeed, but I will post them here just for the fun of seeing them with all your beautiful scale items.

Here is the Marx #54099  MoPac operating cattle car from 1956-57.  There is a mechanical trip under the car which when activated opens the door and pushes a cow partially out the exit.

Here is the Marx #800 GE 70 ton switcher and the matching Marx #1231 MoPac caboose.

Well that's about it for my MoPac equipment.  Best wishes for a great new year!

Not to steal the thread but this N&W / MoPac car has had me puzzled. Looks like an N&W car, right? But look closely at the upper right and the second picture. For the MoPac experts, what was the relationship between N&W and MoPac for moving refrigerated items? Or is this an imaginary car?

BTW, the K-Line box calls it:

I am not an expert, but I will try to address the question. American Refrigerator Transit was a long time joint venture between the Wabash and Missouri Pacific railroads. A some point in the nineteen-sixties the Wabash was merged into the Norfolk & Western. This car represents the post merger period with N&W acting as as a successor to Wabash under the agreement. Hence the reason for N&W signage on this car.  Models of the ART cars usually have Wabash markings rather than N&W.  Pat B.

Love the Mop. It's one of my "Foundational Four" (+1) that I used to guide my "Kansas City & Gulf" freelanced theme.

The Mop's blue and gray was classic. I really like the way some of the blue/gray engines weathered. I also liked the Jenks Blue. LOVED the way it faded/weathered so fast.

(I like weathering.)

Andre, I have three words for your pics: Grimy! Grungy! Gorgeous!  Pat B.

Wow! Totally forgot about this thread until it got bumped back up onto the radar!

I see I missed some replies/question, so let me make like frog and hop to it...

jacobpaul81:

Concerning my comment about my "Foundational Four" railroads I used to guide my decisions about my proto/free lanced "Kansas City & Gulf" theme, you asked this:

"MoPac, Frisco, ATSF and UP?"

You got half of it right!

Actually, it was four lines that were regional to the area I have lived in since moving from KC MO in January of '69: The Arklahoma region of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. Specifically, the Ozark and Ouachita mountains that lays over the AR/OK border. (I've lived in the eastern OK portion since May of '90.)

Those lines are: The Frisco, the Missouri Pacific, the Rock Island, and the Kansas City Southern.

I also take a look at how the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (the "Katy") did things, for they run along side my region, too. However, the "Foundataional Four" are the ones that determine "go-no go" on whether I incorporate an idea into my KC&G theme.

As I said, I loved the way the blue and gray of the Mop weathered. (The Jenks Blue scheme did, too.)

With the Mop being part of my "Foundational Four" that I use to guide my decisions concerning my proto/free lanced HO scale KC&G theme, I chose colors that are very close to what the Mop used for their blue and gray scheme. However, I did lighten the blue and the gray to better suit typical layout lighting. Also, my paint schemes reflect the Mop (hood units) as we as the Frisco (cab units).

Here's a pic of tatty KC&G #255 idling alongside the small engine house at the mountain town of Ozarka, Arkansas. Does the paint scheme and colors remind you of the Mop? That was intentional!
