theFI am constructing a model of a passenger station based on the famous Grand Central Station in New York City. Due to layout limitations, the station will have similarities to Grand Central but probably will not capture the "Grand" part.

Because I am left-handed I am starting the model from the back wall and working my way forward.

Actually, I am starting in the back because it is much easier and allows me to make some progress before I get bogged down with the major details.

The back of the building will not be seen, but I am still providing some detail.

Here are some pictures of the completed back of the station. I added a roof to the top of this section that will match the roof on the building. Since I am only working with a 14 inch building width, I layed out the front and side doors, windows and pillars as shown in the pictures. I went to AC Moore last night and found the pillars. They are used for weeding cakes and come in various heights. They were also pretty cheap. The windows I am using are a mix of Grandt Line and some Korber roundhouse windows.

It is very difficult for me to not try to construct something exactly how it looks. I spend many hours coming up with a plan and usually still not happy with it. Rather than drive myself too crazy, I just settle for what I think is best and hope the person I am building it for is happy.

Here are a few more pictures. I have pretty much completed the main structure except for the roof and the first floor under the road. I found some stick on scroll work that I will add to the corners. I am pretty sure you will still see the detail after I paint over them. I used three cast ceramic benches I found at Hobby Lobby in the flower department for the roof scrolling. I got two pieces out of each bench.

I am pounding away on this model. I can see the daylight to completion. I have to complete the storefronts and awnings and add some lights. Here are some pictures of the roadway and lower sidewall construction. The building was painted with Krylon Chalk Board Paint. I got it while walking through Hobby Lobby. I think it was a great choice for a stone structure like this.
