The very first TMCC GP-9's from 1996 were the 6-18562 Southern Pacific and 6-18563 New York Central. Both were numbered 2380.

Did they both have the same sounds in them? This was pre-CrewTalk and TowerCom, so you can't tell by listening to that.

I'm fairly certain the ROM chip (the bottom/underside chip on the RailSounds 2.5 boards) of one of them is "GP9 04".

Can anyone confirm/deny that the sounds between these two units are the same, and/or check to see what the ROM (bottom/underside RailSounds chip) is labeled on their units?

While these sound files were created 20 years ago, they still sound great today!

Thanks-

Yup. The TMCC/Railsounds Geeps made from the later 90's into the 2000s, beginning with those NYC and SP models, have been recognized many times for their great sound, even by today's standards. Some of the later ones also added crewtalk/towercom.

Agreed.  Sorry I can't 100% confirm they are all the same, but I believe any of that era of GP-9's sound the same (Pennsy, CP, Milwaukee Road, and maybe a few others came out right after.

Not the same engine, but about a year later, the GE Demo (6-18226) and SP (6-18228) Dash-9 has got to have one of the best horns I've ever heard, recent production included.  (and that was long before anything like the Fatboy speaker!)
