I have an F7 A-A Legacy set 6-38754. The rear coupler opens randomly on the layout at different locations even on straight sections. Maybe every 15 to 30 minutes. After researching on forum, suggests isolating to either mechanical or electrical. I opened the engine to unplug coupler but can't trace wires without unbundling. I took a picture that I think is the correct connector, but thought I would post here to get feedback. I have a screwdriver pointed at connector.

Disconnect it and give the loco a trial run. Try opening the coupler by commanding it to see if you have the right connector.
It cannot hurt anything.
Thanks for response. I disconnected and verified that the rear coupler no longer opens on command. All other functions work correctly. I hooked up the train with 13 tank cars in tow. After about five minutes, the coupler opened. This would indicate a mechanical problem.
Does this mean I need to get a new coupler or is there some adjustment I can make? If a new coupler is needed, Lionel shows this part is not available (unless I don't know how to search properly). The parts list shows "coil coupler, MNT C, Length 1.44". It gives 2 part numbers 6208447550 and 6802274550.
If I find one of these, is this user replaceable? I can solder if needed.
You should be able to replace the coupler, I believe it'll come with pins on the wires. Note that all of these show up as "unavailable" on the Lionel parts site, so you may have to call to see if you can find a suitable coupler.
It's possible to take the old coupler apart and do a little smoothing of the latching surfaces to fix it.
Disregard the coupler. 640 number is most likely American Flyer.
